How should my engagement ring fit?

Hi everyone,
I got engaged on Sunday and I absolutely love my ring.
I don't know if I'm just not used to having a ring on that finger, but I just want to make sure I have the right fit!

I have to wiggle it a little to get it on, and it takes a couple of seconds to get back off past my knuckle, but not painfully so.

My concern is once it's past my knuckle it is a TINY bit loose. I'm talking maybe 2mm gap when I make a fist.

It doesn't spin freely but the stone will move slightly if it catches something.

I don't really want to have it re sized as it is engraved, and also it is considerably tighter when my hands are warm for example after a workout, I don't want summer to come and my finger be uncomfortable. it just feels a little looser when my hands are freezing cold like they have been today.

Am I just being silly? I know it's much better to have a ring that doesn't cut your circulation off, and I've shook my hand around loads and it is never flying past my knuckle.
I've tried those little ring adjusters from Amazon and it made it really hard to get the ring off plus it made my finger bulge a little (muffin top on the finger) lol

I've included pics for reference of fit.

Any advice would be appreciated 😊

Sounds normal to me for your hands to swell a little in warm weather, hence you feel the ring fits more closely on those occasions. It is a stunning ring and it suits your hand perfectly. I can't believe how looong your fingers are! Congratulations!

As long as it doesn't spin ita good xx

Sounds & looks like a perfect fit.
Remember as years pass, hopefully in a long & happy marriage, your fingers will change through several decades. Pregnancy perhaps, weight gain or loss, just hands getting older, so you don’t want it too tight. I can speak from experience having been happily married for fifty five years.
It’s a lovely ring & your hands & nails are beautiful.

My engagement and wedding rings are a bit loose. As long as it can't get past your knuckle, it won't come off. It will just spin around when it's cold when your fingers have shrunk. I remember reading that a ring should not be either too tight or loose, but when you push it up from underneath, there should be a small gap between the top of your finger and the ring.

Beautiful ring! Congratulations!

Echo what pp said about wanting it slightly loose to allow for changes.

I think it’s fine, some people’s knuckles are a bit larger in comparison to their fingers so it can slip round. My friend has this and she got something from the jeweller that stopped it spinning.

I would say better slightly on the looser side. Mine had to be wiggled over knuckle, etc, kind of as you describe and since having child/middle-age spread, etc, I can’t wear mine anymore - I’ve been looking into getting it enlarged actually (appreciate that might it be easy with yours being engraved, etc). Agree with PP, you’ve got gorgeous hands and the ring looks marv! 💕

Good excuse to eventually get an eternity ring in a slightly smaller size to hold it in place.

Shinyandnew1 · 13/09/2024 19:48

I think it will be ok-I think they do tend to spin a bit at first but when it’s next to a wedding ring, that seems to stop.

Stunning ring-is that diamond?!
