Help me style my slip skirt for winter

Hello, I've got a flattering navy blue slip skirt that falls below knee that I've been happily wearing with bare legs and sandals during the summer. Can you help me style it for winter? The think tights and boots combo in the picture don't look right to me, what would work?

Have you tried knee high boots with it? Or an ankle boot with a heel?

NTmumAutisticteenagemeltdowns · 13/09/2024 17:18

Could try knee length boots, have some tucked away.
Heels are out during to back issues, sorry should have said xx

I think that these skirts are better a bit longer midi style. Are you in the market for a new one?

NTmumAutisticteenagemeltdowns · 13/09/2024 17:24

Mid calf looks terrible on me, as it cuts off my lower legs at the widest part. I could get a long slip skirt (although might take ages to get the right fit) but wondering if any ideas to make this work first.

You need a proper boot that comes further up your ankle, probably fairly chunky. Biker, DM, Chelsea - whatever you have or takes your fancy.

forevernumb · 13/09/2024 17:48

I was thinking longer than mid calf .

I agree the skirt needs to be a lot longer with a very chunky biker boot. Otherwise a knee high boot as pp have suggested.

The boots/ shoes are terrible. I agree any traditional, proper, flat lace up ankle boot or a kitten heel, knee or ankle boot. If you're wearing ankle boots tights should be as close as possible to the colour of the skirt or a complete contrast and in either case , new and good quality. The ones in the picture look as if they're washed out and faded.

( here's Net a Porter's take on the kitten heels to ward off the " kitten heels aren't fashionable" crowd)

Kitten heel ankle boots
Kitten heel ankle boots
Hobbs kitten heels
Russell and Bromley
Dune

Agree with everyone else that for ankle boot needs to be longer. At the length of OP's - knee boots.

VenusClapTrap · 13/09/2024 18:25

Long boots definitely.

NTmumAutisticteenagemeltdowns · 13/09/2024 18:58

Thanks for the ideas. I'm definitely going to try knee high boots.
For the last couple of winters I've been wearing slightly above the knee slightly aline skirts, and with my leg shape and the colours of the skirts I had these boots and tights totally worked (tights are dark grey 🤣 and I've got a back issue and orthotics which heels preclude).
I think I'm better off finding a longer skirt than trying to get new boots to make this skirt work. I've got other ankle boots but I don't think they will solve the problem either.
Final though / ques, could changing the tights make this work? <asks in desperation before going off to find a flattering skirt in a longer length 🤣>

Chunky ankle boots or knee boots. I would pick brown or burgundy boots (match tights to the footwear) as you have a black skirt. It looks less morticia!

Spomb · 13/09/2024 19:04

Sorry, just seen that you said it’s a navy skirt! It looks black in the photo. I would go for tan knee boots and a beige jumper. Definitely no black shoes or tights.

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 13/09/2024 19:50

You can wear black with navy. The problem here is, sorry OP, those hideous shoes. You could wear black or navy ballet pumps, but not those shoes.

sarabaellty237 · 16/09/2024 07:13

long boots not looking beautiful style

bananaboats · 16/09/2024 19:45

I think it needs to be long boots & throw out those ones in the pic I can't imagine them looking good with anything!

ShesGreatYeahNo · 16/09/2024 20:25

The boots in the pic are diabolical and the length of the skirt is totally unflattering on you, it really needs to be a midi and knee boots because your legs are not long and skinny enough to pull ankle bootlets with round toe and awkward length skirts. Those boots should be for work uniform or with long jeans in the park, they are just ugly but I bet comfy as hell.

ShesGreatYeahNo · 16/09/2024 20:33

Below the knee does not suit you, go above knee (rare in shops these days) or proper Midi like the yellow hemline option 1 or 2. I suggest knee length pointy boots with kitten heel or block heel, I'm sure you can manage an inch or two heel it really makes a difference and not all heels are uncomfortable so try different ones. See with the mirror reflection in your photo, ankle boots will shorten and make your leg chunky so do midi skirt, pointy knee length boot and some heel.

I don’t usually like to pile in and tell people that something doesn’t look good - but in this instance I don’t think this skirt is that flattering at all. You’re a bit like me with chunky calves and slim ankles (my thighs are also really slim and toned). Runner by any chance?

That’s not a good skirt length because it just points to the widest part of your legs. If your thighs are good go shorter. If not go a lot longer as per the picture a PP posted.

Those shoes don’t make anything look great IMO. Really blocky shape that make your feet look enormous and your ankles wrinkled. You need a much higher heel with your ankles and that skirt.
