Is this Louis Vuitton bag too 2000s to wear now? Sell or style?

I'm in a bit of a style crisis and could use some advice. I've got this Louis Vuitton bag that's giving me major 2000s vibes, and I'm torn about what to do with it.

On one hand, I'm thinking of selling it because it feels so dated. But on the other, I'm wondering if there's a way to style it that could work for today's trends.

What do you all think? Is it possible to make a 2000s-era LV bag work in 2024? Or should I just cut my losses and sell it?

If you think I should keep it, I'd love some styling suggestions. How would you update this look for current fashions?

Burgundy mac or burgundy boots and scarf, on style for AW24. You don't need to over accessorise it especially if your own casual style doesn't particularly fit, just go with the outerwear.

It really just reminds me of Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian's in circa 2005 😂

I know what you mean but i’m assuming you aren’t going to wear it with a juicy tracksuit and von dutch cap, so I think you’ll be ok 😉
I’d use it as a pop of colour/accent colour in an otherwise neutral outfit (think Freya Killin on Insta) or if your style is more maximalist then have a look at Tara Maynard who had lots of 90s/00s references in her styling

A terribly fashionable person told me years ago to “tie” an item into an outfit it might not otherwise work with, make sure at least one colour was repeated elsewhere. Not sure if this works, but if you say, had a jumper in the same colour (or a pattern that had at least one bit with the same burgundy colour), it would give the impression of being a conscious style choice, less of a mistake.

don’t have it on the crook of your arm or over your wrist, hand held with arm straight would look better.

it’s quite a smart bag so your outfit will need to be smarter, even if not completely workwear, a wool coat not a padded one.

But it is a bit dated, maybe store for a few years and see if that style comes back in?

I think the world might divide into people who care about handbags and people who don't. I love clothes. I love getting dressed and dressed up. I'm really interested in other people's clothing choices but so far as bags- they're things for carrying things in. The most I distinguish are evening bags and day bags. So far as day bags, I've a choice of several Pliages or Radley cross body pocket bags- they all carry things.

This isn't a criticism of people who are passionate about bags, not in the slightest but if I saw the OP out and about with that bag, at best I might think "great colour"; at worst I wouldn't even notice the bag. Long winded way of saying- if you still like the bag, just use it.

Zara have a whole section on their website called 'The Burgundy Edit'. Keep it.

DancingNotDrowning · 07/09/2024 17:43

Both the colour (burgundy) and vintage (2000’s) are bang on trend for AW24.

i wouldn’t buy the bag now but i reckon it could look great with the knitted dress, wool coat, knee length flat boots combo.

I think it looks tacky and dated. Sell it.

notaurewhatusername · 07/09/2024 17:54

@Ineedanewsofa that's a fair point! Defo no von Dutch or juicy 😂

@notaurewhatusername How about a vintage Hermès? Not a B or K but there are plenty of lovely under the radar styles. I'd give anything a miss from the last ten years or so though as the quality definitely went down as they ramped up production. Maybe a Trim or a Massaï Cut - they have a nice casual feel. It's a slippery slope though.

LL1991 · 07/09/2024 20:03

I’m tempted to say a juicy tracksuit and a little dog but I know that’s not helpful!
keep it if you like it, fashion is and should be subjective. Search the bag on Pinterest for styling ideas/workwear ideas, etc and maybe invest in a nice pair of winter boots that suit it so it’ll be easier to bring an outfit together.

Ireolu · 07/09/2024 20:05

I don't like LV but aren't these Alma bags considered 'classics'? If you won't use though, you shd sell it.

bringincrazyback · 07/09/2024 20:17

I love it, and I'm not normally a LV fan. I vote keep and wear!

PamperGoals2024 · 07/09/2024 20:24

Burgundy is in this season. I'd have a look and see if there are ways you can wear it. But also no harm in listing it at the same time in case it does sell you can update it.

In terms of selling it...because burgundy IS in this season you may find it does sell.

However depends how much you want for it.
