I was literally about to say the same. Why with the arms out like that?!

Joachim and Marie also celebrated Flag Day yesterday (or was it the day before?), at an event hosted by the Danish Embassy in Washington D.C.

Marie wore a lovely brooch - rubies, emeralds, sapphires and diamonds - which was a gift from Daisy on Athena's birth. Marie wore it to Athena's christening, and she's worn it many times over the years.

I like her green dress but I'm not keen on the brooch with all the different colour stones. Reminds me that of her engagement ring, which I think we've all agreed before is not enviable. Maybe the brooch was intended to match the ring, in fact...

Papergirl1968 · 06/09/2024 19:44

The RAF officer seems to have a WTF expression at the elaborate courtesy.

MotherofPearl · 06/09/2024 19:45

That is one ridiculous curtsy.

Wouldn't be out of place in the Japanese court!

KnickerlessParsons · 06/09/2024 15:44

Ah, you could be right. I hope so anyway.

Its definitely an optical illusion, she looks fine in other photos. I'd even go as far as to say she could've gone up a size - the dress is very snug! https://www.newmyroyals.com/2024/09/the-duchess-of-york-attends-perfect.html

Forgot the pic of the Edinburghs.

Great picture of Sophie!

Maireas · 06/09/2024 19:48

Sophie does look lovely.

There are so many of those @MrsLeonFarrelland I can't bear them. I'm sure some people think they're real!

@MotherofPearl I'd happily have the brooch - it's much better than the ring IMO (poor Marie). I think you're probably right that Daisy intended it to match.

Oh Lord that curtsy!

Runningupthecurtains · 06/09/2024 20:00

Camilla thought the curtsey was hair raising.
For a RAF wife it's lovely to see her sporting a RAF sweetheart brooch.

Whilst it is really sad that Charles has been so ill, one of the unexpected benefits for me has been seeing so much of Camilla. She has gone up in my estimation with her hard work and cheerful attitude and she has found a style that really suits her and sticks to it.

I can only assume the RAF curtesy as if they have wings?

Don't like Sarah F's dress, it's too much like Maleficiient in style! However the colour is beautiful and she really suits emerald green

KnickerlessParsons · 06/09/2024 22:04

I agree about Camilla. She's been doing a sterling job while Charles has been indisposed.

William out yesterday visiting an art exhibition of art by the homeless at the Saatchi gallery. and the stubble is back!

Thank you for the new thread. I like the photo of Edward and Sophie. It is extraordinary really that the royal family business these days is being carried by those two and Camilla - no-one would have predicted that back in the 1990s.. Camilla's style is very different to the late Queen's but is also a great example of how to dress non frumpily as an older woman.

But in a piece for Blue Peter to promote the Earthshot prize, William was clean shaven. 🤔
Although it’s not clear when it was filmed…
I agree Camilla looks great and has really stepped up.

Choux · 07/09/2024 00:17

Camilla is making shirt dresses in a variety of prints her signature style. The prints, the collar, sleeve length and skirt volumes vary slightly to keep them different.

It's a much more relaxed style than HLM's who always had a hat and coat but then she was 20 plus years older than Camilla. Camilla is still unpopular in some quarters so I wonder if she purposely aims to keep her outfits understated and relatable.

I don't always like her slightly more formal outfits. The heavier fabrics seem to look a bit more shapeless as they hang loosely on her. But she usually has an amazing hat and interesting brooch to draw the eye.

Maireas · 07/09/2024 06:31

I do agree with you, @Pallisers and @Choux . Camilla has had to step up, and I think is doing a good job. As for style, it is tricky for an older woman, but she's managed to find shapes and colours that work for her. Plus some good jewellery always helps!

A friend same age as Camilla is a dressmaker. She has a tailors dummy and some patterns that really work for her.

She'll buy fabrics, buttons, play around with sleeve lengths, collars, but the outlines remain.

Her clothes are stunning.
