Ok. I am just going to say: what the hell....

Yup, not feeling it. Just looks weird.

Maireas · 12/09/2024 20:40

Sophie looks nice in the trousers and top. I agree about Max, I'm not keen on the dress, but the headpiece is really flattering.

In a way Eugenie suits the Bavarian cosplay - low cut works a lot better on her than the awful high necks she often chooses.

Sophie's trousers are okay and I love the colour of her blouse, but to me the blouse style is too casual for those quite formal, corporate grey trousers. She often gets little details off which detract from what could otherwise be nice outfits overall.

Yes I have to say that was my reaction when I saw it this morning 😂😂

Re: the Swedish opening of Parliament above you might be interested to learn that the royal women always wear black and white as a nod to the old court dress, which was introduced in the 1770s by king Gustav III with some twists and turns. It was last worn in full form for the opening of Parliament in 1974, and Queen Silvia has reintroduced it for some formal occasions since the -88 (but in blue and white), but for parliament she laid down the law of black and white after a few years of experimenting. See pics in this article from Svensk Damtidning https://www.svenskdam.se/kungligt/kunglig-kladkrock-riksmotet-mardrom-sofia-madeleine/8759583

Extra tidbit: the lady-in-waiting in the blue court dress in the photo is currently implicated in a civil court case where the man who was supposed to inherit one of Sweden’s last entailed properties found himself kicked out of uncle’s fold quite suddenly when uncle was old and possibly getting doddery (hence court case) and the property was left to that lady and her husband instead. Very dramatic actually. She is one of Silvia’s main gals. I don’t remember what the title is in English.

Klädkrock på riksmötet – mardröm för Sofia och Madeleine | Svensk Damtidning

I dag samlas kungafamiljen för riksmötets öppnande. Varning för klädkrock!

Thanks @banivani, I did wonder why they were all in B&W for the opening of parliament.

Maireas · 13/09/2024 06:34

That's interesting, thanks, @banivani

Our little thread mascots have a rival now, Queen Jetsun's little daughter Sonam, who turned 1 earlier this week.

Sonam will always be the best dressed. There is no rivalling those beautiful traditional clothes!

SqueakyDinosaur · 13/09/2024 14:27

Oh my goodness, she is adorable! Beautiful outfit and look at her gorgeous little chubby hands and cheeks!

Maireas · 13/09/2024 16:20

Oh my goodness! She's gorgeous 🥰!
Another mascot 😊

The more mascots the better - she is adorable! 🥰

MotherofPearl · 13/09/2024 20:14

Little Sonam is a real poppet! Very cute.

DuchessOfPort · 13/09/2024 20:14

Oh Sonam! What a pudding!

the statues. WTF. What is it about statues? The Diana statue wasn’t great either -do they see them before the big unveiling and not have to hide the “who’s that then?” face. Why can Madam Tussaud’s do it and everyone else can’t?

Maireas · 13/09/2024 20:17

I have no idea what it is about statues. That Queen and Prince Philip one is hideous! It looks like Hilda Ogden pursued by a robot! I agree that the Diana one wasn't great either.

Agree about the awful statues!
Here’s Sophie again, rounding off a busy week at a horse trials.

The Daily Mail can’t seem to make up its mind whether the trousers are navy or black or indeed leather or leather-look.

MotherofPearl · 13/09/2024 20:31

A miss from Sophie imo. The individual elements are okay but absolutely don't go together. Total clash of styles and textures, and not in a good way.

KillingMeDeftIy · 14/09/2024 07:07

Sonam's brothers are very cute too, and how could they not be with Jetsun as a mother? The king is very good-looking too, though he's starting to resemble Elvis!

Maireas · 14/09/2024 07:09

They're such a beautiful family, and the traditional clothes are lovely. Although I can see the Elvis similarity, @KillingMeDeftIy !

I don’t mind the mix of textures and styles in principle, but for me where it goes wrong is the length of the trousers and the sandal type shoes. The trousers are not long enough, or not intentionally short enough iyswim, and the light coloured shoes don’t “ground” the outfit enough. Hope that makes sense!

Chewbecca · 14/09/2024 11:09

I think Eug looks great in her dirndl! Two steins for DH and me please.

I also like Sophie's jacket, but not the rest of the gear.

Sonam is definitely the start of the week though.
