Wasted £30 on a lipstick - gutted…

Loved it in store trying out but massively disappointed with real life use - colour, pigmentation. I will use it up but not in love. The case is stunning - YSL.

Please tell me I am not the only one this ever happened to? I have researched it so thoroughly, tried on inside and outside and still it’s too frosty pink, too sheer, too slippy, just meh..

Pop it on eBay, someone will buy it. Just make sure your description is honest about it being used.

CalicoPusscat · 04/09/2024 20:38

That's a shame - as @MsTeatime says say you tried it once but it wasn't right for you in daylight, hopefully you'll get some money back

YouSayChorizoIsayChorizo · 04/09/2024 21:05

You could try it over/under another lipstick, stain or balm. Especially a dark one, if you feel your new lippie's too pink. A bit of depth can make all the difference.

Greyoutside · 04/09/2024 21:07

Definitely sell it, someone will buy. It's not like it's contaminated, just have to wipe it once and fresh layer of nwe lipstick underneath

StormingNorman · 04/09/2024 21:08

Is it the right sort of frosty pink to use as a blush/highlight?

RosesAndHellebores · 04/09/2024 21:08

Layer it with another lipstick.

RichterScale7 · 04/09/2024 21:13

@StormingNorman Good shout, I will try on cheeks tomorrow first, and consider selling if it does not work.

Take it back as - tell them the truth- very often they are happy to exchange. When I buy a new lipstick ( when we had a department store!) I would always ask can I have a refund if I don't get on with it.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 05/09/2024 13:55

Take it back. I doubt very much they won't try and make you happy with your purchase.

Summerhillsquare · 05/09/2024 14:03

Yes, got a Trinny stacking lip cheek thing and the texture doesn't work for me at all. Annoying!

learieonthewildmoor · 05/09/2024 15:33

I buy from a chain here in Australia that lets you return products lightly used for store credit. Don’t like the lipstick? Exchange. It’s a brilliant practice.
Recently bought a Nars Powermatte which was just too drying: exchanged for a Bobbi Brown crushed lip colour.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 05/09/2024 21:02

I've exchanged products from Boots,Clinique and Estée Lauder, go and return it OP.

EmeraldRoulette · 05/09/2024 21:35

I didn’t know returning was an option. It’s so difficult with no testers. Do big shops still have an option to try then? I have only used QVC lately.

I was eyeing up Pat McGrath lip colour for a long lasting one but that’s only available online with returns not possible.

Always worth trying to get the brand to take it back. You can call YSL CS. (I suggest signing up for an account online first, if you haven’t already as these companies are often more receptive if they can see you are registered with them).

Re: Reselling used makeup. This is not usually allowed on eBay, especially with lipsticks. I am aware that people do it, but if eBay notice, they will remove the listing:

Listings for used cosmetics, sponges or applicators are not allowed. Used cosmetics present health and safety concerns because the products and applicators used to apply them often come into direct contact with the body. This is why we generally don't allow them to be sold on eBay.

Let us know how you get on with YSL, if you go down that path.

Cosmetics policy

Listings for cosmetic products must comply with the UK’s Cosmetics Regulation (for sales in England, Scotland and Wales) and the EU’s Cosmetics Regulation (for sales in Northern Ireland) and be safe for human health.

Ebay have got cleverer too. People used to list it as New but write (Used) in the listing. Now it won't let you post
