Hello everyone, I have fine hair that tends to lay very flat. To make it interesting, I need to give it a bit of texture but I’ve struggled to find a spray/product that will do this without being sticky or making the hair ‘crunchy’.
Can anyone recommend one? TIA

Have you tried different types of dry shampoo spray ? They can thicken it a bit and gently brush hair after a while upside down IYSWIM. I use a Kloraine one on my fine hair at the roots and it thickens it up a bit but there are many types available. I don’t use very much at all as I’m using it to give the impression of volume.

Sorry for gigantic link

Having tried about fifty squillion hair products on my fine and uncooperative hair I can recommend Goldwell Dry Spray Wax. It has a little ‘Hold 4/5’ on the label which I’m assuming is strength of hold.

You only need a little and I find it holds nicely all day with a natural feel. I can run my fingers through to sort of ‘take it off’ at the end of the day to avoid awakening with a crispy head.

I have very fine hair and have spent thousands on all sorts of potions & lotions.

Stay away from silicone products, the likes of Tresemme etc, as they are too heavy for fine hair.

For years now, I've stuck with the following products & nothing else actually works -

I blow dry using https://www.philipkingsley.co.uk/philip-kingsley-volumising-styling-froth.html?gadsource=1&gbraid=0AAAAADotuP8Y46vIKFhGGvQdbbLSmJutO&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI9J3Es9KniAMVtJRQBh2BnxrYEAQYASABEgLA9fDBwE

Then once dry, I put some loose curls for volume with a wand or straighteners...
Wait until cool and comb with a wide comb..
and then use this, which is an incredible product...

Will also put a few puffs of hair powder at the root when I'm going out.

Shop around for the above products as they are often on offer.

Thanks, everyone. I'll try them all!

I use Bed Head Tigi Queen For A Day. It was recommended on here previously.

GenAvocadoOnToast · 04/09/2024 14:15

I use Batiste volume spray which I think is pretty good. I also massage my roots a bit then fix it with hairspray.

Is your hair long? Mine's the longest its been in years at the moment (just past my shoulders) and it's never been flatter or harder to work with.

longdistanceclaraclara · 04/09/2024 14:46

I just use dry shampoo, Batiste is the best imo

BringMeTea · 04/09/2024 18:30

Expensive: Living Proof, Oribe
Less expensive: Umberto Gianini, Revolution dry shampoo
I have tried 'em all...

Sam McKnight Cool Girl spray is good for adding a bit of texture and volume

ThinkingAgainAndAgain · 05/09/2024 18:54

The Kevin Murphy bedroom hair spray recommended thread is really, really good. They use it at my hairdresser and it’s the first time I’ve ever bought a product in a salon and not felt ripped off.

Crikeyalmighty · 05/09/2024 18:58

Thanks for this post- I also have lifeless medium length flat fine hair at 63

spikeandbuffy24 · 05/09/2024 18:59

I like the umberto giannini one

I bought a new shampoo the other day as the massive bottle I bought from TK Maxx a couple of years ago finally ran out. I just went for a cheap Elvive one that was on offer at Tesco - clay something. I used it today and was astonished by the difference in my hair. The roots feel so much cleaner and lighter, my wave pattern reappeared and it has more volume. Turns out this one has SLS, whereas the TK Maxx one was sulphate free.

So if you’re using SLS-free shampoo it might be worth trying an SLS one to see if it makes a difference. My hair must have been weighed down by product buildup that the sulphate has now removed.

soupfiend · 05/09/2024 19:13

Kevin Murphy thickening products, the body mass spray and the shampoo and conditioner, then spray at the roots with bed head dry shampoo. Ive also learnt to let my hair get quite dirty with a build up of products on it as it makes it big.

I have very fine hair, used to have a lot of it, now with peri menopause, very little of it. Need to disguise the thinness.

Jackasnack · 05/09/2024 19:19

I’ve tried so many volumising shampoos, lotions and potions and I eventually found my holy grail, oribe dry texturising spray. Costs a fortune, but it has been the only thing to ever work.

Crikeyalmighty · 05/09/2024 21:19

@soupfiend I only wash my hair about once every 8 days for that reason- looks better grubby!!
