Work party outfit

I have a work event with an “after party”, think dinner and drinks. I think there will be a mix of jeans/nice tops and ultra glam. I want to be somewhere in the middle so “dressy but not OTT”!

Size 16, must be long sleeves (past the elbow at least) and don’t like high neck/collars. Prefer black or dark pattern as have a habit of spilling things! 🤣

Would you go midi/maxi dress with sandals or mini dress with black opaques? Awkward time of year as could be cool or warm but event indoors so doesn’t really matter I suppose.

Any links to dresses welcome! Budget up to £100.

I love Boden, and find that they have a lot of dresses that tick your boxes. They can easily be dressed up or down, so you can wear them again. Something like this maybe...

Not black but vaguely cool, particularly with your best grooming and accessories to dress it up:

Cos dress

It’s generously cut at the back and the beautiful pleating and slightly glossy fabric make it special.

But I’d say you might struggle to find excellent design, fabric and sleeves for £100 (new). Would you consider hiring?

That fabric would be a nightmare for anyone with spill-phobia.

OP, I would definitely go midi length dress for this time of year. Very forgiving on the legs if (like mine!) they’re not tanned and toned without the need for tights. Plus if it’s chilly you won’t get the dreaded goose bump legs.

I have the White Stuff “Rua” dress in various colours and sleeve lengths. It’s a flattering fit and hangs well. Their new season has darker colours:

Rua Midi Jersey Shirt Dress in BLACK PRINT

Shop the Rua Midi Jersey Shirt Dress in BLACK PRINT. We've brought it back again. Love it for its super soft fabric, flattering midi length and the charming, muted floral pattern. A style that's always in bloom.

Yes definitely after darker colours.
However not keen on shirt dresses as don’t like collars.

Would rather buy than hire as think I’ll get further wear out of it.
