Navygrey jumpers… worth it…?

Birthday coming up and I’m tempted to ask DH for a lovely sweater, I’m trying v hard to buy less but buy items I love and that will last.

I love the look and styling of Navygrey, it’s right up my street. Has anyone bought one? Are they worth the high price…? If not then any other good pointers for a really lovely but everyday sweater, not cashmere as it makes me too hot! I actually love the look of Navygrey’s chunky cotton ones as I even get pretty hot in wool, I live in the SE and it doesn’t seem to get really cold here until about December… looking for a lovely layer for chillier days rather than freezing ones!

I love Navygrey, worth the price in my opinion. I’d wear cotton in Spring/summer and wool in winter. The wool is cosy without feeling you are overheating. I’ve had one of their chunky knits for 3 years and it still looks good as new. I wear layers underneath, it’s a dark colour and I only wash once a year. I give it a light de bobble from time to time. It’s an investment piece that should last years if looked after properly.

I live in the SE too and I don’t find the wool too hot even for our slightly milder climate.

I do find their things a bit - bland!

For comparison - obviously prices and styles vary:

And Daughter

American Vintage

Babaa

Hades

La Fetiche

Le Tricoteur

Margaret Howell MHL (site temporarily down)

Plümo

Studio Nicholson

YMC

I have several, I love them.

If you're looking at the Weekend Chunky, which is cotton, I got that this week. It's lovely but very chunky, very thick, heavy. I need cooler weather for it. It feels like it'll last a lifetime, though.

Keep an eye on the Repaired x Renewed section for really good reductions. They update it monthly, I think. Everything I've had from that section has been like new, no flaws at all.

That’s so helpful thank you everyone!

Blankly thank you for the list of alternatives!! I will spend a happy lunch hour checking them all out…

That’s interesting! I repeatedly buy from La Fetiche, whose knitwear is beautiful enough to make one weep. (Really want to wear one of theirs today but it may still be a few degrees too warm.) And I have pre-Covid Studio Nicholson sweaters (from when they were all pure merino wool, or wool and silk,) that have to be almost forcibly removed from me in late June. People audibly sigh with envy over them. (Cannot say whether more recent versions are equally lovely - they seem to be trimming the costs by adding synthetics now.)

I have two Navy Grey jumpers. I really like them and they’ve worn well. One was from the Repaired x Renewed range so would definitely keep an eye on their website on the 25th.

I don’t find them bland, they do a different job to other jumpers I have at similar price points. They’re classic/simple but in such lovely materials and shapes that they look special. If you want some more recommendations, I also like:

And I wouldn’t really recommend American Vintage knitwear. It’s ok and they have lovely colours but it wears a lot quicker than Navy Grey or similar - they’re not really in the same category IMO.

I've got a navy grey jumper and two cardigans / they've lasted, they're great quality and go with everything, love them. Worth it for me.

My goodness, this thread is a serious danger for knitwear enthusiasts

ShadesOfPemberley · 03/09/2024 15:57

I agree the AV knitwear isn’t the same - but people look so beautiful in all those lovely colours!

Yep they do have really lovely colours!

Saw this and (over-investedly) thought of you, @ShadesOfPemberley. New season mix of cotton and wool. (Also in a shape I have from years ago that always garners compliments.)

Babaa from Spain is lovely. Their oversized sweaters are to die for but I find wood hard on the skin.

I love the softness of cashmere. Have a look at Aethel cardigans and sweaters. Lovely and soft and knitted in London from Loro Piana cashmere. Great if you have sensitive skin and bright colours...
