Are they good? I am not sure if I’ve been sucked in by the pricing here but would appreciate your thoughts if you’ve bought from this brand before. It’s a new one one me but I have heard of the brand before.

I have one from my pregnant days and I still can't part with it despite it being big on me- it's so cozy and warm and locks the heat in without making me feel sweaty. I got mine from eBay for £16 to see me and bump through the winter! I might be ready to part with it this year I think- I'm looking for a change.

jenny38 · 03/09/2024 00:16

Yes I have the long one too, perfect for pitch side. Absolutely love mine, it's warm and not too bulky.

NonsuchCastle · 03/09/2024 02:58

I have that down maxi coat. It's brilliant. And I spend a lot of time in the US north east in winter where it gets extremely cold.

mathanxiety · 03/09/2024 05:08

You will definitely appreciate one in Scotland.

Mummyoflittledragon · 03/09/2024 05:56

I have several Landsend coats including that exact one. It’s toasty warm but it isn’t waterproof. You’ll be ok in a shower, not in heavy rain. Dh has the expedition down men’s coat and only wears in the depths of winter as he is too hot. The warmest coats are the expedition down ones btw. They’re also waterproof whereas the one, you chose isn’t. These coats should be washed in liquid laundry soap or mild soap flakes (buy online) to avoid removing any water wicking qualities. Down does ball a bit after being washed. 20 mins on a cool setting in the tumble dryer sorts that out.

KateMiskin · 03/09/2024 07:39

I do, and I love mine. Its a light down coat. Warm without being bulky and with deep pockets and double zips. Lands End not perhaps very stylish but really good quality.

Dellaandthedealer · 03/09/2024 08:51

Yes I have it too, we call it the big maggot! So warm, but not waterproof. I also have a shorter one which I have had for at least 12 years for Autumn and Spring ( small maggot)! I hate being cold and these are brilliant. Don’t get a white one or you’ll look like a witchety grub!

I have had that coat and all the filling balled up when I washed it, so there were empty patches of coat that was just material and no filling.
After about a year I emailed customer service to say what had happened, not expecting anything, just to say really as I was a bit miffed I was having to buy another coat so soon, and they refunded my money. Their customer service is excellent and i might have just got a bad coat.

That's pretty normal for padded/ down coats. You have to tumble them on low with tennis balls to bash the filling around.

Chipsahoy · 03/09/2024 09:06

I buy them for my children. They last well and are very warm. Rural Scotland here too

Vavazoom · 03/09/2024 09:09

I have their Expedition Maxi Long Down Coat and I love it! It’s so warm as well as being waterproof.

Babadookonhook · 03/09/2024 10:08

Quality is good, durable, most are machine washable and clean well.
Also there warmness guides are great.
I’ve had very warm down, lighter down, lightweight long coats and puffers. Great end of season sales & vouchers.
My warmest down I passed into a friend after 5 yrs, who wears it helping her husband farming sheep in the hills. It’s gets dirty, she washes it regularly and now it’s over 10yrs old and still warm and functioning. She says it’s warmest coat she’s ever owned.
Quality is v good, products long lasting, ladies pull on trousers I think called starfish are very comfy, wide flat waistband.

I've used LandsEnd for years and love them, all their stuff washes well too. I'm also Scotland and also spend hours beside a rugby pitch in all weathers, and I would also highly recommend the Acai Thermal skinny trousers - these were game changing for me. Can be too hot if walking a lot but perfect for standing around.

I've had some fabulous warm coats from Lands End! The petite sizes are great as I'm only 5 ft 3. But don't ever pay the full price on their website. If you sign up for their mailing list they will start sending you regular offers for 40% off!

MissConductUS · 03/09/2024 12:13

All of our outwear is Lands End. We live in upstate NY, and the winters are harsh here. The Squall parka is top-of-the-line, and their customer service is also top-notch.

When you wash down you need to put it in the dryer on low heat with a tennis ball. It will break up the lumps and coat will be fluffed up again.

Speaking of their customer service, the zipper broke on my husband's squall parka a few years ago when it was in the washing machine. It was about 25 years old.

He rang them to buy a new one, and it was so old they couldn't look up the original order or the stock number for the jacket. When he told them that he was replacing it due to a broken zipper, they gave him 50% off on a new one and a $50 voucher. I think the new one cost him less than $50.

I've got Landsend commuter coat from years ago. Warm and dry and rarely off my back October to April (Scotland). Washes well. Nothing comes close to the practicality it offers for me.

muddyford · 03/09/2024 15:07

Their waterproofs are waterproof. I have several of their coats, outer shells and a couple of padded Squalls, all bought in sales. I live in them in bad weather.

momtoboys · 03/09/2024 15:17

I have had many over the years. They are my go to for coats.

You have to dry down filled coats and jackets in a dryer on low with three tennis balls. The balls bash around as the drum spins and knock the down back into place.

Sueskatflap · 03/09/2024 17:33

I bought quite a bit of Lands' end stuff when they first started up in the UK....good quality ....only thing that put me off was finding a parking ticket ( a recent one!) in a coat pocket so it had clearly been worn before being returned Customer service comment a long the lines of we do check pockets etc of returned goods and check for damage before putting items back in stock for sale.

Timeandtune · 03/09/2024 17:40

I have a nice waterproof Mac ( think Columbo). I have received numerous compliments and it was cheap as chips. Can highly recommend.

CatLady476 · 03/09/2024 19:33

I have one like that - have had it 4 years. It's brilliant - live in Scotland and the winters can be cold and wet.

Auburngal · 03/09/2024 20:19

I have a thick black coat from Lands End. Live about 25 miles from their outlet shop in Oakham. Paid £33 for a coat that should have been about £180. They had 25% off coats that week too.

They’re a lovely company too. I was returning a gilet that I left on the seat of my car on the path and it was broken into overnight. I rang them to explain I couldn’t return it after all, and they sent me a replacement in the correct size for free!

Lovely brand.
