If I wear this maternity frock to my register office wedding, please tell me what to wear with?!

Having a very informal wedding in 3 weeks (as am pregnant, party next year!) and was going to just wear jeans but now looking into maybe buying a frock, still keeping it fairly relaxed, but slightly dressier than jeans!

Have found this dress which looks far less frumpy in real life, that picture doesn't do it any favours! I quite like it, and would probably get some decent wear out of it anyway over the next 3 months, but am wondering what I woudl wear with it on the day? I mean, it's a bit cold for bare legs and besides, am still very pasty from the winter. So what would you do legs wise, and what shoes would you put with it?

Any help gratefully received as am not very good at shopping and decisions whilst pregnant!

Oh, and if anyone can suggest similar dresses that would also be fab!

Others always hate my style suggestions, but what about some wedges if you can still wear heels?

They'd be more comfortable than slim heels and a bit more funky. I think you have to be careful with dresses like this. They can look a bit frumpy with the wrong accessories (great with the right ones though).

And how about stay ups rather than the dreaded tights. I agree that it's waaaay too cold for bare legs.

nancy75 · 18/04/2008 13:23

i think tights would be fine, and agree either wedges or maybe patent heels, quite chunky ones? (if you can do heels)

bohemianbint · 18/04/2008 13:24

Cheers RibenaBerry. Will look into wedges but will have to be mega careful as never wear heels at the best of times (am 5'9" and it makes me too tall!) so am quite prone to falling over!

I've just found this frock which is absolutely gorgeous but not maternity - reckon I could get away with a bigger size?

this is quite nice

eternalstudent · 18/04/2008 13:26

I reckon you could get away with that. I prefer it to the T?shop one and as it's not maternity you can wear it afetrwards. How pregnant are you?

themoon66 · 18/04/2008 13:29

The monsoon one is lovely. The first one is a bit frumpy I think.

bohemianbint · 18/04/2008 13:29

I am currently 22 weeks, will be 25 at the time and the bump's getting quite big!

Monsoon have some beautiful things, but if I buy just a big size will they fit badly elsewhere? Why don't they do maternity stuff, dammit?!

Look - also lovely, and they helpfully tell you what to wear with it! I just don't think I'd get in that....

RibenaBerry · 18/04/2008 13:31

You won't really know until you try it on...

It is your wedding though. Even if it's a small one you will remember it forever. So it might be worth shelling out £20 or whatever to have it adjusted a bit if it is too big in any obvious places and you love it.

woodenchair · 18/04/2008 13:32

I like it. if it were me, I'd were it with either jeans or trousers underneath. I wore similar things most of my pregnancy and they are very comfortable.

you could then choose either flats or heels on the day depending on how you feel. Agree wtih Ribena that wedges would look good and be more comfy.

bohemianbint · 18/04/2008 13:33

Good point...I'm going to have to get off my arse, stop internet shopping and get into some real live shops.

OP posts:
RibenaBerry · 18/04/2008 13:37

Internet shopping is great for ideas but I don't think anything can replace a good trying on session. At least if you make a short list before you go you won't have to traipse round...

some nice things here

Swedes · 18/04/2008 13:46

Vacantly - I like that dress too.

Could you get away with this lovely pure silk top over an ivory long-ish skirt? I think it would look really lovely.

bohemianbint · 18/04/2008 14:54

That boho dress has my name on it!

Swedes - that silk top is lovely, but might look a bit too weddingy, which sounds ridiculous, but we're trying to keep the real emphasis on next year!

I like wurly's offering and the boho dress. Happy shopping!

gigglewitch · 18/04/2008 15:20

it might depend on your build, but i found most things apart from big sweaters just looked daft in bigger sizes.
umm, this is so long you avoid the 'legs' issue altogether

PatsyCline · 18/04/2008 15:21

The dress below from Phase Eight is gorgeous (I have it). It's not maternity but ignore the belt as that is removable. Without the belt the dress is very suitable for pregnancy as it comes from below bust (with all-important stretch around bra line) and is in crinkled silk.

I think this would be a great buy as you could wear it for rest of summer and then wear it with the belt next summer.

I have a 20% off code if you like it!

I love the Phase Eight dress suggested by PatsyC - gorgeous.

bohemianbint · 22/04/2008 21:11

Well, after a hellish day in the Trafford Centre on Saturday, I still have no frock and am getting a teensy bit stressed!

(Patsy - that dress is lovely, I'm going to see if I can find it tomorrow and try it on!)

Otherwise, trying non-mat dresses hasn't been a winner so have to try to find something from people who do maternity clothes, who for some reason at the moment seem to assume that all pregnant women want to dress like 65 year olds...
