Need a powerful directional hairdryer

I've got very menopausal hair now. Thinning. Frizzy etc etc
Desperately need a new hairdryer that's powerful enough to properly blow dry with (so directional heat that smooths and defrizzes.)
I've got the BaByliss Midnight Luxe 2300 Dryer at the moment but it just leaves hair like cotton wool and frizzy. (I've just seen that it's reduced in clearance at Boots now so maybe other people didn't find it great either.)
Thank you for any suggestions.

I bought the parlux alyon light a fe weeks ago - I've raved about it to everyone. Game changer, I love it!

Parlux. Tames my peri menopausal hair frizz perfectly.

Parlux definitely winner on this thread

Dyson airstrait! It smoothes and dries in one step and you literally can't blow hair the wrong way

I love my Dyson. In a million years I never would have paid that much for a hairdryer in actual cash though ... Three years of Boots points.

Makes me look like Worzel Gummidge 😂

You need products for frizz, L'Oreal extraordinary oil is fantastic so it VO5 serum.

I love the L'Oréal oil as well. Apparently its a dupe for Kerastase.

I have an ETI Turbo Stratos. Have a look at this brand, about half the price of the Parlux etc, but just as good.

Dyson here too. Love it. My hairdresser have Parlux, and said she preferred Dyson but they are just a bit too expensive as they need quite a few.

My DH bought me the Dyson one and forced me to keep it, I thought it was way too expensive. It’s hard to justify. But I wash my hair everyday and it takes too long to dry with a normal hairdryer so I am really glad I kept it.

I’ve been looking at that one, would love to try it first!

I've never heard of Parlux, and they aren't available from Boot where I have points or any of the shops I could use the voucher in.

I'm dithering around, between a better Babyliss which seem to last forever or a Ghd helios or air, I tend to use a diffuser if I'm going out, so it needs to work with diffuser.
I can't decide if your just paying for the name with GHD?

JJJJuniper · 03/09/2024 17:57

@isthismylifenow interesting that you've mention that one - I've seen them recommended elsewhere too.

I've just googled the ETI turbodryer and stepped back to the 1980s. I didn't think you could still get then.
My mum has one that must be 40yo. I can't remember what her previous one looked like!

Same here. 😂 My mum had one many many years ago. I think I’ll stick to my Dyson in this case.

I have a Parlux that I got in 2019 and it's still as good as it was when I got it - it's used every other day. Cost £75, but it's paid for itself in terms of not having to replace it like I did with my old Babyliss ones - and that's a shame, because my first Babyliss lasted about 15 years (and was our family hairdryer, so had a LOT of use!). I also gather that you can buy replacement parts for a Parlux, so you can fix it if it breaks.

So I'd vote Parlux, but I've never tried a Dyson and feel I ought to say so in the spirit of honesty and fairness Grin

Loving the efforts to keep this a fair and balanced debate Grin

That's interesting to hear modern Babyliss aren't as good. I have one that was bought in 2003 and the other is older.
