Help Size 9 women's brogues

Purplebiscuitwithsprinkles · 01/09/2024 11:08

Help I have no work shoes and desperately need some currently wearing boots for work which is not appropriate, there seems to be a bizarre fitting issue. Bought some basic brogues from Newlook two years ago absolutely loved them and were perfect with my insoles and every outfit I wore. Went back to buy the same pair in the same size 9 couldn't get my foot in them. Checked the code and it's the same as before.

I asked the assistant and she said we're having problems with sizing...a size 9 and is now a size 8 manufacturers are making things smaller. Tried various shoe shops (Clark's couldn't get my foot into, Yours perfect length but the width was too narrow so couldn't get my feet into them) it's impossible to get a decent size 9 fit with an a slim orthotic insole.

Please help me find a decent brogue style shoe wide fit size 9 (or it appears now size 10) I would be grateful for any links. I can't afford to have them made unfortunately.

Thanks

I was wondering why every size 8 loafer I bought was a squeeze! Making them smaller… who knew!

Thistooshallpass24 · 01/09/2024 17:57

Evans shoes are massive , they are wider and bigger than "standard" sizes , I'm a size six everywhere but the shoes in there are like boats !

ASOS do a 9 in lots of styles; I'm an 8 and I haven't noticed any shrinkage in the sizes (yet)

Purplebiscuitwithsprinkles · 01/09/2024 22:57

Again thank you everyone, it sounds silly but I've been really upset about this. I have a lot of body issues that
I'm working on so this was the final straw, not being able to fit in shoes as there's nothing I can do about my feet the rest of my body I'm working on.

I've ordered from Next and Start rite so fingers crossed.

Screenshot of the broken link shoes

Absolutely love these but unfortunately shoes have to plain black or brown.

Men’s feet are anatomically different to women’s. It’s not always as simple as buying men’s shoes.

Works for me and whilst my ex might have said it, I don't believe I have male feet bolted onto a female body?

Thistooshallpass24 · 01/09/2024 23:07

@Purplebiscuitwithsprinkles fingers crossed , I find the next shoes can be pinchy and a bugger to get comfortable , i didn't suggest the ones with the broken link i just screenshoted (not a word?!) them for you. I think you need new socks too, I love getting new socks

Ooh yes new socks, definitely need those too and I'm not as restricted with colour as I am with shoes for work.

@Purplebiscuitwithsprinkles let us know if your search was successful ?

rhiannon1967 · 02/09/2024 18:47

I totally understand why you are upset. More and more, stores seem to be stopping at size 41, which in my mind is a 7. It's always been difficult to get a size 42 (8) but now a lot of shops seem to think that why should they bother. I can't tell you how many YouTube influencers I have watched a video and then clicked through on a pair of shoes only for them to stop in a size 41. It's just so disheartening. The body positivity movement doesn't seem to have anything at all to say about feet. But as you say there's no way you can slim down and shrink the size of your feet. You also can't get shoes altered, or make your own. So you really are stuck. I'm loving the trend for wearing trainers all the time as for the first time in my life I can actually order something I like and IT WILL FIT ME! I'm like a child in a sweetshop. This must be what it is like to have 'normal' sized feet. Imagine being able to walk into a shoe-shop, choose something that you like, ask for your size and they actually fit you. It would be like a dream come true! There are a couple of 'outsize' shoe shops in Chilton Street in London, but I didn't like many of the styles and you are looking in the region of £250 for a pair of loafers. Which is all very well, but it's a very expensive mistake if they aren't comfortable. Good luck with your search. If you can't find something to fit for work I think you are justified in asking if you can wear trainers, as they should make reasonable adjustments.

I’ve bought men’s shoes many a time and have had no issues. Women’s feet vary wildly in their shape so I’m not convinced there is a female foot shape or a male foot shape.

Sorry should have posted this is the style of shoe I'm looking for.

You should find lots of "mens" shoes in this style. Might be easier

SarahSays1 · 02/09/2024 22:46

Quite a few shops do unisex brogues as school shoes for teens and they go up into larger sizes so these could work. Check a large department store website for school shoes in your size.

steppemum · 02/09/2024 23:03

I have big feet and cannot wear mens.
They are wider for the same length, so too loose around the heel etc.

I loved Evans shoes because they had wider and size 10, and feminine styles
But Evans in our town doesn't exists any more.

Long Tall Sally shoes often work for me.

Lisamari99 · 02/09/2024 23:11

Try Yours clothing, they do lovely brogues in different widths

Purplebiscuitwithsprinkles · 04/09/2024 23:01

Hi all and the winner so far is...start rite snr brogue. The Next ones were too pinchy unfortunately. I tried hotter they were ok but weren't really my style.

I also tried phoning a company today to get some shoes made as a very last resort...the starting price was a whopping £1500 yes £1500, completely out of my price range.

Thank you all for your help, it's really appreciated. Hopefully the shoe company's will have a u turn and go back to having 'normal' sizes.

@Purplebiscuitwithsprinkles I'm really pleased! Start rite shoes are fab and last really well , I was pleased to see them on the M&S website and was surprised by that choice of sizes ( I had them as a child and loved the process of getting my feet measured and choosing new shoes ) don't forget your fancy new socks :)
I also seem to like the word "pleased" apologies

Women's feet are narrower around the heel than men's and so constructed on a different last.

You might find your particular feet can get away with it on certain types of shoe (particualrly if you have slightly wide feet) but shoes described as "unisex" are typically built on a male last and just branded as "unisex". Its particularly a problem with shoes which really need to fit well such as shoes used in sport/dance training or anything where good fit is really important.

Ha ha the word pleased and shoes doesn't usually go together for me but I can say that I am definitely pleased. I used to love getting my feet measured too and when I was little the start rite lady used to offer a flying saucer or a sugar mouse if you were good and stood still.

I bought them from the start rite website itself, they were offering 15% off first purchase if you signed up to their emails.

@Purplebiscuitwithsprinkles amazing ! 15% is a good discount ( I'm pleased for you!)
The shoes shop we went to had a rocking horse that was dappled grey and you were allowed a ride after your shoes were chosen, I thought it was wonderful I loved start rite Mary Jane shoes , I believe I had navy/black for school , red for going out & brown for brownies

I think I had black patent ones with a pink heart on the bottom, and like you brown ones for brownies.
