Selling luggage

gardenmusic · 31/08/2024 13:07

Any ideas, please?
I have a fair bit of lightly used Samsonite luggage, everything from suitcases to briefcases to combi laptop/suitcase. They are modern.
I will never use them again. I have different luggage requirements now.
I want to sell, rather than donate, but do not have to achieve high prices. (I have donated a lot of office items)
I tried facebook market place - within my area, and had nothing except an obvious scammer.
I don't want to get involved with distance selling, too hard to send the goods.
I would prefer people to look and collect.
Any idea how I can sell them, please?

Vinted or ebay. I find Vinted is easier. Don’t list for the price Vinted suggests. Do some research on Vinted and eBay first

Thank you Autumn, but won't I have to post it to the buyer? All pretty big pieces.

Why are you reluctant to pack them up for posting? It's not difficult.

I bought two Samsonite cases on eBay for about £30 each.

gardenmusic · 31/08/2024 16:25

NancyBellaDonna did you notice how much the postage was? I was thinking it would be a lot for a huge skiing size case.

OP measure and weigh your cases (add on a bit for packing). Then go to RM or a parcel comparison site stick in the size and weight and it will give you prices. I send large stuff, heavy stuff and collectible stuff all the time - they even collect so you don't need to go out to drop it off (and can bring labels if you don't have a printer!)

Thank you for your help, I have been ignoring e-bay and vinted, perhaps it's time I had a look.

Around £8.50-£10 for a medium parcel on Royal Mail. I think that link should take you to the RM parcel prices. All you need is some bubble wrap, two heavy gauge bin bags and parcel tape. You can also do collection on eBay, whereby the buyer comes to you.

NancyBellaDonna · 31/08/2024 17:13

EVRI is cheaper but I find Royal Mail is more reliable.

I know you said you don’t want to donate, but if for any reason you change you mind luggage is very keenly sought by a women’s refuge I am connected with. I’m sure other refuges local to you are the same.

its so nice for women to leave the Refuge into accomodation with their belongings in cases rather than bin bags.

If you don’t want to donate then sell at a car boot sale. No postage and buyers can see what they’re getting

Rocknrollstar · 31/08/2024 17:27

I advertised suitcases on Freecycle and was inundated by people whose children were going away on school trips and they couldn’t afford to buy a suitcase for them.

gardenmusic · 31/08/2024 17:48

Thank you for the postage information - I am leaning towards the collection - because that way people can see exactly what they are getting, and no misunderstandings. I cannot really afford to donate the cases, as they were very expensive.
Regarding donating, just donated a leather briefcase and a leather laptop bag, both immaculate and were expensive. Thought they might be good for back to school. I just took them to a charity shop - Pilgrims hospices.
If it's not a stupid question, womens refuges - would they like household goods, or are they fully stocked?

Post either Royal Mail ( buy online at Royal Mail) or parcel force (buy this on parcel2go). Pack the items before you list them so you can work out the exact postage.
on Vinted the buyer will pay postage

DancingNotDrowning · 31/08/2024 19:36

not a silly question at all. Different refuges have different needs/rules and different abilities to store donated goods but always worth getting in touch.

turnover at our refuge is quite quick and for women going into accomodation they often have nothing at all.
