How many people do you know:-

a) slavishly follow fashion, any new item they’re on it, no matter if it doesn’t suit them. I have one friend that as soon as she heard about the Ganni white blouse dupe was straight down to Primark to grab one.

b) can’t or won’t follow fashion as eg one friend she’s about a size 16-18 now but she’s never been that into fashion although she likes nice things. I saw her in Fitflop white trainers with a dress the other day and was really surprised as it looked great. She can’t or won’t wear jeans much.

c) me, I love fashion, too much sometimes but I love vintage too. I’m lucky as I was in Zara the other day and wasn’t tempted! There were some nice items but some I couldn’t work out how you’d work them out (being young and super slim helps). I’m also an earring person (have far too many) and my diamond studs and pearl studs I rarely wear! I know someone who’s a necklace girl. That’s her thing. Some people I also know love shoes and bags (I used to but don’t now).

d) people either older or younger who stick to brands, I’ve got my SIL’s DM who loves The White Company, M&S and Whistles and doesn’t like to vary too much from this.

I don’t follow it slavishly but did buy the Ganni blouse dupe and buy in to trends but only if I like them rather than just following for the sake of being in fashion. I buy second hand as much as possible.

I used to dress way too old for my age. No money, had a kid at 21 and matured too fast. At 46, I am way cooler. I do not discriminate on brand or price, only quality and look matters to me. Flexible about man-made fabrics too, which helps.

I love to be in the know about fashion and trends but am very selective about what I buy. If something lights me up, I go for it. There are some long-standing items I fancy but for some reason still have not made the move (Chloe blouse, wide led jeans, cropped trench). When in doubt, I tend to ask myself 2 questions - would I feel great wearing this if I bump into person x? And would a French me wear this? This saved me a lot of money over time, don’t laugh at my inner barometers, each to their own :-)
