Curling iron for someone RUBBISH at hair, and impatient

I've tried straighteners, I've been trying for 10+ years. No amount of YouTube videos have led me to being able to wave my hair consistently.

Is there a fool proof curling iron? I have med length hair (just below my ears) very fine, I just want some beachy type waves! Is there an answer?!

Ask your hairdresser.

My hair will hold any sort of curl/wave/whatever as it's thick and wiry. My cousin has poker-straight fine hair and had tried every trick and gadget going before giving up - her hair dropped any sort of 'do' within hours. Her hairdresser told her that she didn't realise she'd spent so much time and money on getting her hair to do something it never would.

So, first stop is ask your hairdresser if your hair WILL hold a curl or wave. Then ask for advice about gadgets.

I use the Babyliss perfect curl. Expensive but REALLY easy to use, takes about 20 mins to do my whole head.

It does hold a curl as I do often get it curled at the hairdressers instead of straightened, and she just uses straighteners making it look so easy 😩

There needs to be a hair appliance library where you can try before you buy 😂

What @BloodyAdultDC said! I have fine hair and no matter what I use, it doesn’t hold a curl at all - they just drop out within an hour or so. I had a perm for a few years but now I’ve made my peace with having dead straight hair.

Sorry - I was writing mine when you were posting. In that case, maybe a curling wand will do it, but you’d need to have a fairly light touch if you just want waves rather than curls.

@FourEyesGood thank you, I perhaps need to look at products as well, I'm terrible for only using heat spray and nothing else, as although they hold they don't hold their shape for a huge amount of time.

I managed to pick up a babyliss pro curl on Vinted for only £8 including delivery so I figured it's worth a shot even if it's a bust!

Only thing I’ve had any success with (and easy) is a curling wand.

Just a long stick you wrap your hair around.

10/10.

@MidnightPatrol is that one that doesn't have a clip, so you just wrap it around and hold the end of your hair? What products do you use?

Same. I cannot for the life of me work out the straightener way of making waves!

You need some product in your hair OP - mine won’t hold a wave with freshly-washed product-less hair. Any styling product you already have that gives it a bit of hold will probably do. And you need to hold the hair against the wand for 7-10 seconds (there’s a bit of trial and error) otherwise the wave drops out.
