Antiperspirant ok for 11yo?

My DD is generally very sweaty, hands, feet and armpits.

she’s about to start senior school and I’m conscious that she gets quite noticeable sweat patches under her arms. Her uniform shirt is pale blue so will show sweat patches. She usually uses Nude cream deodorant which is terrific for stopping any odour but obviously isn’t an antiperspirant so has zero effect on the visible sweat patches!

Any suggestions for a gentle antiperspirant? I use Mitcham myself (also quite sweaty!!) but it’s too strong for her. I don’t love the idea of her using antiperspirant BUT I know she will be upset if anyone notices the pit stains… lesser of two evils is to try to deal with the latter I think.

What’s wrong with Mitchum? Antiperspirant won’t do her any harm.

My ten year old has a dove one. It seems fine

Pretty normal for an 11 year old, my DD definitely needed it when starting secondary school!
If Mitchum is irritating her skin try dove cream , my younger DD has just started getting a bit smelly and using deodorant but has sensitive skin and dove cream doesn't irritate her

Thanks so much!

She has v sensitive skin prone to flaring up (eg if I use the wrong washing powder) so I’m keen to find something gentle and as low on fragrance as possible…

I’ll go with the Dove cream one and see how we get on. Thanks everyone x

Mitchum do an unscented version - DD is also quite sweaty and sensitive, it worked fantastically for a few years but recently began to actually make her sweat more.

Nowadays she has had very good success with the Dove Advanced Care spray on. Smells gorgeous, no sweat or white marks and doesn’t irritate her. Would definitely recommend giving it a go.

I’ve started getting irritated under my arms by some deodorants but never have an issue with the dove ones

Mangobaby25 · 28/08/2024 10:39

@ShadesOfPemberley @Pyjamatimenow You should give Rubb a try - they have natural deodorants for kids and adults. It will allow her to keep her natural sweating, but if applied to properly dry armpits (apparently a v important step!) it will keep her smelling good all day and it's soooo soothing for the underarms! Like a balm. No irritation at all, which is a must have really, my DS and DD use it exclusively.

Thanks everyone, so helpful!

thanks mangobaby but the real issue she needs to control is the sweat patches which natural deodorant doesn’t help with. We already use a great natural deodorant and she doesn’t have any odour at all with that but she has terrible sweat patches! She doesn’t want to start senior school (with all the extra nervous sweating that will entail!) with the high risk of sweat patches under her arms by 11am 🫣

Thanks again everyone!!
