Trousers

I've been reading the capsule wardrobe thread which has flagged up to me my trouser issues.
I have lots of very nice shirts but struggle to find trousers to wear them with.
My issues:
Wide leg trousers just make me look even more fat and matronly, I can't wear them.
I like jeans but can't wear them to work, and even so I find them a bit uncomfortable tbh.
I have slightly fat/swollen ankles so cropped trousers are not flattering.
I am a size 18 post menopausal apple shape, and most trousers are too loose around the thigh if they fit around the waist.
I do have some Saint & Sofia straight legged soft trousers, but they are quite casual and black, so don't really work with more summery tops.
I need something slim legged but maybe a bit stretchy, maybe not black.
I'm going round in circles, can anyone help, either on trouser styles generally that might work, or specific makes?

Boden Richmond worth a try.

most trousers are too loose around the thigh if they fit around the waist.

For this issue buy for your largest measurement and then have the trousers altered to fit. Mass produced clothes simply do not fit every body shape.

Are you able to wear boots at all? (Knee high or ankle, zipped or laced.) If so that would greatly increase your dressing options over autumn and winter.

CapaciousHag, I think you are probably right. I can do some alterations myself but don't have a machine at the moment - going to have to rethink that!
I do have ankle and knee boots; in winter I mainly wear chunky Chelsea boots or DMs, neither of which go with office-y black trousers.
I'm going to have wander round the shops to see if anything looks promising, and will take another look at the Richmond trousers recommended by CharlotteRumpling.

Oh no, Boden no longer do the Richmond trousers!

Unless you really have to wear them (court / uniform) and unless they’re very expensive and beautifully cut, black trousers can look quite drab. And they’re ubiquitous. So it’s good you’re considering other colours!

Palava goes up to a size 22 so I would think their proportions are sound. They are in the middle of summer sales at the moment - probably best to wait for the winter collections.

Community Clothing trousers go up to an 18. Worth ordering to see how they fit.

Don’t know your budget but these

Weekend Maxmara trousers are gorgeous, could surely be worn in most offices and would probably work with most of your shirts. They go up to a size 20, so again they should know about proportions.

Sorry, meant to say, regarding ‘wandering around the shops’ - which century are you residing in? Even if you live in Mayfair or Shoreditch, physical shops are unlikely to prove rewarding. But I’m sure you know this!
