Composite bonding - how quickly/badly does it stain?

I'm looking for people's experiences with composite veneers/bonding. I've recently had it done on four top front teeth to mask moderate misalignment. I have a great dentist who I trust, and I'm really pleased with how they look -- they're not unnaturally perfect-looking and still look like my teeth, which is what I wanted, but they look significantly straighter and more uniform.

However, I know that composite can stain and I find myself wondering how risky it is to have a cup of tea, eat tomato pasta sauce, etc.

Can anyone share experiences with composite bonding, especially if you've had it a few years. How easily has it stained? What do you eat/drink? Do you avoid anything?

Reviews online seems to be split between those who have had their composite work for years, eat and drink anything they like and say they're still perfect, and those at the other extreme who say they're awful and stain if you so much look at a cup of tea or glass of red.

I'm not a red wine drinker, but love my tea! So far I'm limiting myself to one cup a day and rinsing my mouth afterwards, but I'd love to relax about it a bit if thats possible!

Thanks, @sunshinechaser, that's helpful. I just don't want to scratch them, but am probably overthinking 😊

Hey guys,

Hope you don't mind me jumping on this post...

I'm thinking of getting composite bonding on my front teeth and one to the left of my front tooth too. Just wondered how much you paid for you composite bonding?

Just want to make sure I can afford it because my self esteem because of my teeth is at an all time low 😭

Thanks. 🌟

I’ve had composite bonding done on my front teeth as well, and I totally understand your concern about staining. Personally, I’ve found that composite does stain over time, especially if you drink things like tea, coffee, or wine regularly. But it’s not immediate – I noticed some gradual changes after about 6 months to a year.
To prevent staining, I try to drink my tea with a straw and always rinse my mouth afterward. I also limit foods like tomato pasta sauce, which can be quite staining. However, if you really want to keep them looking fresh, regular professional cleanings make a big difference.
I’ve also heard about composite facings, which seem like a great alternative for those who want a more durable option that resists staining better than composite bonding. They might be worth considering if you're looking for something that holds up over time with less maintenance.
Ultimately, the key is moderation. As long as you're careful with what you eat and drink, composiet facings can last a long time without noticeable staining.
