What foundation do your pale teens use?

I am a non make up wearer but my 16yr old DD wears makeup. It was just concealer mascara & eyeliner but she's now using the concealer as foundation...

So any cheap good value foundation suggestion for very pale (Scottish pale blue!) teenage skin?

Or would a BB cream be better? (I can't work out the difference 🙈)

Thank you for helping the clueless!

DDs have a rimmel vegan one they all like and dd2 just got a light one from mac. Nice light coverage. They’re very pale.

NARS tinted moisturiser is great. My tube lasts me a good 8-9 months, which makes the £30 price good value. And it has 30SPF as well. There are four very pale, cool colours which your daughter could likely choose from (I'm pale-skinned, but fairly warm-toned - sounds like she is cool-skinned).

BigSkies2022 · 22/08/2024 21:35

Meant to add, the coverage is more like foundation than many tinted moisturisers, but still not 'clogging' or heavy.

Babychewtoy · 22/08/2024 21:36

I was going to say NARS tinted moisturiser as well. It’s not cheap but you don’t need to use much.
And it’s a light foundation really, not a tinted moisturiser - as pp mentioned

Blue freckly Scottish here and feel their pain!

Lots of brands are more inclusive of fairer skin tones now and they should have a fair bit of choice. My advice would be to see whether their skin is warm, cool or neutral. It’s still fairly common for brands’ paler shades to be quite pink (cool toned) and they can look odd if you happen to be neutral or warm.

Loreal Foundations come in about 30 shades now I think, but the best thing to do would be to take them to a decent-sized boots or Superdrug and test a little bit on their jaw lines to see if the colour disappears against their skin.

If they have freckles, it’s really important to check the colour matches their neck as the freckles can make your face look darker. I kid you not - lots of MUA have tried match foundations to my freckles 😂

Too Faced Born This Way is famously brilliant for very, very pale skin.

or the NARS tinted moisturiser!

Weirdaf1 · 22/08/2024 21:46

It's such a pity The Ordinary discontinued their foundation range. Their palest shade was perfect for my ghostly dd. She doesnt bother much with foundation these days because its so difficult to find a good match. If you check Amazon there might still be some of it available.

L'oreal do a True Match one Alabaster

Morwenscapacioussleeves · 22/08/2024 23:55

Thank you all I really appreciate the replies! I am making notes.

It sounds like we need to take a trip to a big boots & actually try them on her skin? I have no idea about make up matching but I do know about fabric matching 😂 & in that case the type of light makes a huge difference - is the same true of make up? Will she need to go outside to check the stripes as well as inside?

(Goodness knows how I persuade her to do any of this in public 👀)

Thanks again

Checking outside is a pro move 🤣

NYX 'Born to Glow' Foundation is great and very affordable. I am a natural redhead with Scottish and Irish parents, so feel you on the extreme paleness! 'Born to Glow' has a lovely finish, decent staying power, and a number of fair skin options. I lean warm in undertone and have been using the colour quite literally called 'Pale'. It lives up to its name! Good luck with the hunt 😊

LaSourciereEfrontee · 23/08/2024 06:52

DD uses a tinted moisturiser from Clinique which they colour matched for her, plus a light concealer.

If you are in a big Boots, Fenty does a huge range of colours, including very pale.

It's always better to go in and get your skin matched to the foundation. They will give her the exact colour plus the next shade down and the next shade up.

Is that a thing Boots do or do we need to go to a department store?

Boots no.7 essential range (the white and clear tube). My dd is auburn, pale and covered in freckles. I took her to a no.7 counter and they did a great colour match for her. It’s lovely and light, and she is a happy young lady

ClipTap · 23/08/2024 09:49

DD is very naturally pale and used a Revolution one and then Boots Hydroluminous I bought that was too light for me

She now fake tans because she hates being pale

LolaJ87 · 23/08/2024 09:50

As a fellow pale, please don't buy a foundation on the spot. Test them out (first on the hand, then on the jawline if they look like a good match), then go off and have lunch to kill some time and then check them in the daylight. I cannot tell you how many times I've wasted money on a foundation which looked like a good match but then oxidised on me, and looked far too warm.

Bargain foundation suggestion: Sleek In Your Tone 24 Hour Foundation (light to medium coverage - can be got on offer for around a fiver)

Mid range or higher end foundation suggestions: Sculpted by Aimee Satin Silk Longwear (medium to full coverage - about £30) or BPerfect Chroma Cover Luminous Foundation (medium coverage - about £22) or Estee Lauder Double Wear (full coverage - about £35)

Picklechamp · 23/08/2024 09:52

Fenty

GoingRoundThatBlockAgain · 23/08/2024 09:56

Hello, pale Welsh type here!

Agree with PP about first knowing your undertone. You can tell this from your veins in your wrist as per attached picture.

I also second the LOreal True Match - either foundation or the Nude Tinted Serum they do. It will be next to the LOreal foundation in a big Boots or Superdrug.

The foundation comes in cool, warm and neutral undertones. Cool is for slightly pink toned skin; warm is for more yellow tones; neutral is a blend of both.

Both are a lovely texture. The serum is lighter coverage but neither are heavy. I wear 0.5 Cool in the foundation and 0.5-2 Very Light in the tinted serum.

As a pale person I find Superdrug has a wider range in brands like Rimmel than Boots do. Rimmel do some light ones eg Light Porcelain which I never found in a Boots.

What foundation do your pale teens use?
Meadowwild · 23/08/2024 10:00

Rimmel London 24 hour. Has three or four very pale skin tones - from cool to warm but all for Scottish/Irish very white skin. Really long lasting. You can use tiny dabs of it as concealer too, or mix it with moisturiser for lighter coverage. It's way better than any expensive foundation.

WitchyBits · 23/08/2024 10:56

My eldest dd was incredibly pale as a teen and I found that nothing in the uk was any good, it was all darker and made her look grubby. I went onto google and bought some bb cream by missha and it was perfect for her.

Chantecaille foundation is lovely, and they have paler shades.
