IF so, I'd like to hear it

I have been avoiding mirrors for three weeks and I am only four months.

I do know people who wore their NORMAL JEANS all through pg. They are evil and annoying.

MamaG · 16/04/2008 21:38

Thats just wrong isn't it. I'm almost 12 weeks, but know it won't be long before I'm avoiding mirrors

I spent a long long time losing previous baby weight and the week I got my bfp this time was the same week I got into my size 10 skirt.

Even my face gets fat when I am pg. After ds was born I swear it grew about five inches in width. What's that all about??????

PotPourri · 16/04/2008 22:04

Erm, in a word - No. The celebs can do it of course as they have all the stylists for their hair and glowing skin. Some people feel like motherearth carrying a baby - I have just felt fat and uncomfortable each time though.

Concentrate on the end goal, and how gorgeous your baba is going to look (no one will be interested in looking at you then!!)

PengTheMerciless · 17/04/2008 13:35

Don't wear floaty things. They look dreadful. But no, there's no real alternative.

KMUN · 17/04/2008 13:39

Actually used it as an excuse to be a bit more adventurous with clobber - colours/ prints and avoided tent-syndrome like the plague. People can't blatantly slag you off, as they assume you've got no choice. 'Tis very liberating.

i made a pact with myself not to wear anything that i looked crap in just because it was practical. found 2 great pairs of jeans (blooming marvellous £40 and new look £12) which were just made with extra lycra so looked normal, ie no big stretchy fabric bits, and wore them all the time.

wear heels, nice underwear, make up etc helped me feel vaguely attractive.

also found i could buy cheap bits at asda/new look etc which weren't maternity, just a size or 2 bigger than usual.

i was still huge and felt gross, but at least i felt like i was TRYING!

now have new baby - ah the joy of being back in my normal clothes.

Oblomov · 17/04/2008 13:40

Not keen on the beginning bit, before your bump is prominent. When you just look fat. That is where I am now.

Oblomov · 17/04/2008 13:41

So, no floaty things. Does it all have to be fitted and bump showing and figure hugging then ?

CountessDracula · 17/04/2008 13:42

you could just stay in

Tutter · 17/04/2008 13:42

ah i love it when i get

sorry GOT

(oh lord)

to the obviously-pregnant stage. lots of tight tops. much better than loose, which just makes you look fat

mazzystar · 17/04/2008 13:44

I actually loved the way I looked when I was up the duff. My body has never been anything to write home about so somehow a big round bump gave it a bit more structure.

I went for things that really fitted around the boobs and bump - wide trousers, bias cut long skirts from ghost [cheap on ebay], long fitted jersey tops, lots of accessories. keep your hair in good nick - skin is usually great in preg isn't it? - and bobs your uncle.

PengTheMerciless · 17/04/2008 13:46

Yes, figure hugging is fine I think. Well, not thin spandex, but fitted.

Also, I find I can wear much chunkier jewelery - big pendants and bangles - when preggers.

Careful of heels though - your balance is off. I nearly went arse over tit in a carpark when I stumbled and couldn't right myself.

Tutter · 17/04/2008 13:48

with ds1, when i worked, i used to wear scarves (the silky ones, not like doctor who's) a lot

tight top plus scarf tied around neck

obv pregnant but drawing the ey away from mahoosive bump

that was the idea, anyway. i think it looked good

MamaG · 17/04/2008 20:22

Thanks all, except CountessDrac

OBl, yes, I will soon be at that fat stage . Almost 12 weeks so not put any weight on yet, but won't be long before I look a twat lump! Going on a Big Night Out at beginning of June too - I'll be about 20 weeks, so no doubt I'll just look like a blob

I'm 35 weeks pregnant and today have been pottering about the garden wearing size 12 (but very stretchy) yoga trousers and a non-maternity sweatshirt.

Out in public I've been mostly wearing mid-calf length skirts (some floaty ) over knee-length stretchy suede boots and fitted t-shirts. I've had my hair done a lot too and used a little more slap than usual.

'Tis my 4th and I'm nearly 40.
