New winter wardrobe

naddy738 · 19/08/2024 14:32

For personal reasons I had to start my whole wardrobe from scratch and thought I'd start with winter as it won't be long until this sun disappears. Do you think this is enough? Or am I missing some comfy essentials? I have a uniform for work so don't need any work clothes and don't go for night outs other than restaurant trips and cinemas bowling etc. I'm 24 years old

6 bras
14 pairs of knickers
7 pairs of black socks
7 pairs of white socks

3 pyjama sets
Fluffy night robe

8 jumpers ( Different styles)
2 Basic long sleeved Henley tops (black and white)

Blue straight leg jeans
Black straight leg jeans
Black skinny jeans
Black leggings

black ankle boots
White trainers
Black trainers
Uggs

Wool coat
Long puffer coat ( for when I'm outdoors at work)
Black leather jacket

Great list! Is 2 tops to go under jumpers enough? How about a couple of more to give you the option of layering? Also personally I'd add a gilet to go with the other coats. And a winter hat/ scarf/ gloves

SafariShoes · 19/08/2024 15:20

I’d say more tops are needed.

I would put a cardigan on the list but I run cold so often shove a cardi on in the house to save the heating.

Slippers to go with the nightwear?

what about sports/exercise clothing?

Do you never wear blouses? Dresses?

overgrowntoddler · 19/08/2024 15:21

I'd defo want some joggers and comfy clothes in there

Also a dress / skirt?

T shirts and vest tops?

Trainer socks?

Slippers?

Geneticsbunny · 19/08/2024 15:21

You are going to need more tops. I also think that 8 jumpers is loads!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 19/08/2024 15:23

I'd want to have some comfy bottoms for round the house in winter - cosy jogger type things. (We live in a granite house with high ceilings which is hard to heat, and cutting about in pj bottoms isn't warm enough - YMMV!)

I wear dresses a lot less in winter, but I would probably want at least one that I could stick on with opaque tights and boots if I was invited somewhere where jeans and a jumper were no use.

Agree with pp re scarf/hat/gloves.

YellowRoom · 19/08/2024 15:23

Do people have 6 bras? 😳

Pastafortea · 19/08/2024 15:26

Instead of 8 jumpers you could have 2 or 3 then maybe a shirt, a blouse and a few T-shirts?

naddy738 · 19/08/2024 15:28

Thank you all so much for your suggestions so far! Feeling a bit silly now I forgot about dresses and t shirts oops

I also think 8 jumpers is too much and you don't have enough tops. You basically don't have enough layering options. So I'd want at least 5-6 tops of varying levels of warmth, probably some vests and then say 2-3 jumpers and at least 1-2 cardigans or light jackets.

Rather than 3 pairs of jeans that are all similar plus leggings, I'd invest in at least one pair of smart trousers.

Two scarves - one purely for warmth and one partly for decorative purposes and possibly hat/gloves.

Actually, this is quite an interesting exercise. My winter wardrobe last year (excluding clothes for sleeping/lounging around the house and socks/underwear) was quite limited as money has been tight but was basically:

Core items:
1 pair black cords
1 pair blue jeans
1 pair red jeans
2 pair tailored/smart trousers in blue/back
2 x dresses
1 x cardigan style hoodie
1 x knitted hoodie
1 x cashmere jumper
1 x knitted jumper
lots of vests (wear them under everything)
3 short sleeved tops/t-shirts (bit smarter - to wear under cardigan/jacket)

3 long long-sleeved t-shirts/blouses/tops
1 pair black ankle boots
1 pair brown ankle boots
1 pair trainers
2 pairs thick black tights
My endless scarf/pashmina/glove collection Grin

I also have a couple of jackets/blazers for when I need something a bit smarter and a couple of smarter tops and heels that are kicking about from previous years for nights out etc. I do also have a couple of smart dresses that again, are old, but that I can whip out if I have to attend an event.

stardust777 · 19/08/2024 15:47

Thermal vests?
Tights?
Knee high boots? (this is my most worn winter item)
Blazer? (for milder days)
Dresses?
Gloves, scarves and hats?
Sunglasses? (for bright days)

Umm, yes....

Sales are a good time to pick up a smart going out top. I picked up this for £15 at the weekend. I already own it in blue which I have worn multiple times - with palazzo pants and smart jeans.

Long sleeve thermal vests for layering.
A sweatshirt or two instead of all the jumpers?
Joggers, I found some lovely flared ones from New Look last winter.
A long sleeve denim dress is good in Winter with thick tights and boots.

GinandGingerBeer · 19/08/2024 17:55

What about some cords or utility trousers to mix it up instead of jeans?
Instead of 6 jumpers maybe
A cardigan - chunky one
Sweatshirts x 2
Heavy shirt- denim or brushed cotton

M&S have some good base layers (striped tops for layering or thermal base layers)

PragmaticDramatic · 19/08/2024 18:44

I would suggest replacing some of the tops with cardigans and agree with the idea of more tops.

Snowflake2 · 20/08/2024 01:26

I'd add a zip up hoodie in sweatshirt fabric or a chunky cable knit hooded cardigan with toggle buttons. In a couple of sizes bigger than usual, so you can throw it on over the top of your jumpers and Henley's if it's cold without feeling trussed up and restricted.

I did a capsule wardrobe last winter which worked well.
4 x jeans
4 x jumpers
4 x vests
4 x Henley's
7 x sets "pyjamas" which were just joggers and thin jumpers that had seen better days
Bathrobe
7 x bras
14 x knickers
7 x thick socks
7 x thin socks (for underneath the thick ones)
Boots
Massive hoodie
Wool coat
Hat
Scarf
Gloves
