Italian wedding

I have a wedding to go to in Verona at the start of October and totally clueless as to what to wear! I'm a size 10 and 5"3, little bit self conscious of my tummy after a c section. Not a fan of prints. I was thinking something like this? But I think I'll need a jacket as I've seen it can get a little chilly on the evenings but no idea what would go with this!

Verona is not going to be that warm in October. Average top temperature 18, 9 at night. 9 degrees is coat weather.

cunningartificer · 19/08/2024 19:17

Having just been to an Italian wedding near Verona, I'd say your first choice or the Reiss dress would be great if you want to wear something similar to what the Italian women will be likely to choose. I saw a lot of those lovely long silky dresses in a range of colours. Agree about the food; it's marvellous but constant nibbling rather than huge portions. I saw no short skirts at all (church wedding perhaps might be a factor?) and the style was more cocktail smart evening I think than English wedding. No hats! Also wraps popular for evening. Have a lovely time!

mitogoshi · 19/08/2024 19:40

Last wedding i went to in Italy was on the smarter side. If in church you are expected to cover shoulders (eg wrap or jacket). Dresses were more structured and most men were in linen suits.

mitogoshi · 19/08/2024 19:48

@cunningartificer

Last one I was at there was an extensive buffet which we Brits all tucked into but that turned out to only be the starters, 3 more courses were served sat at tables then we had a dessert buffet! Worse was the constant topping up of drinks, thankfully i managed to not collapse but several guests, of different nationalities ended up being helped to bed!

Mistralli · 19/08/2024 20:33

I've only done one Italian wedding and had an "oh shoot" moment because apparently everyone wears navy. Literally the only guests in anu other colour were the English contingent there.

So erm, how do you look in navy?

LardoBurrows · 19/08/2024 20:38

That Reiss dress is gorgeous. The Kitri black swan dress looks cheap and nasty, like something you'd buy off a market stall, £245.00 and they didn't even bother to pattern match.

cunningartificer · 19/08/2024 21:37

@mitogoshi yes if you're not familiar with the "aperitivo" culture (drinks and snacks that can be an extensive buffet before dinner) then I think you might struggle!!! When I first went to Italy I used to just go for aperitivo instead of a meal in the evening! The amount of food is always very generous at weddings but Italians tend to pace themselves, so copying them we were fine... Also notice how people rarely get drunk as I've seen in English weddings. Plenty to drink but it's very relaxed and accompanying all the food. Love an Italian wedding!

JudyJudeplusOne · 20/08/2024 00:08

The green dress is lovely but, although she's tiny, it's clinging to her tummy and showing a little bulge, so I think may be a little unflattering.

Yes, I see what you mean. Perhaps if you end up going for a dress without sleeves, one of these jackets might work. Have you seen the dresses and jackets in my first response? Not sure if you are politely declining to comment because they're not to your taste!

Hey all! Had a mad few days and forgot about this thread, woops so sorry! Thanks everyone I'm going to work through some of these and will post back!

The green reiss dress I'm a little worried about, as a PP said, that little ruffle may really highlight my tummy (it isn't massive but it's the bit I'm most self conscious about so would rather it wasn't on display).

And obviously the same problem with the original dress

Surprised to hear that people think bias dresses are unflattering! I think they are very flattering - I'd just get tummy support pants if you're worried about more support in that area.

I think the dress in the initial post is perfect and I'd just take a black blazer to put over the top if it does get cold (which it might not). I've been to quite a few Italian weddings and it would fit right in.

Are you tall and slim by any chance?

Bit left field but what about this? The bit around the waist is elasticated! Thinking with a simple low bun and simple heels and jewellery? Is it too mad, print wise?

If you’ve got this much £ to allocate you could try a rental service for something really bougie and amazing!

i know you said no prints etc but this one is my fav and they have a huge selection of some without any prints, worth having a look!

OP this.
If you do not like prints go with simmilar style but solid colour.
UK is very specific about what kind of dress looks braidsmaidey and what does not, but for the rest of the Europe anything that is not white/supershort/transparent but looks like evening or cocktali dress will be ok.

And as owner of csection tummy first green dress is a no. It does not even fit this model right, you need really flat tummy and prominent perky bum to make it work. Idk what is wrong with designers tbh

@showmethegin

Could this work, or would it be too plain for the event?

The cape would annoy me and a few Prosecco's in I would start flapping it like a bird and everyone would rightly determine I am a bit of a tit.
Edit to say I am not the OP😂
