Horrifically cracked heel, help!

I have no idea how they've ended up like this but I am incredibly ashamed as well as in a lot of pain.
Does anyone know how I can fix this and also what it is and what's caused it? I'm desperate to get my heels healthy again but at the moments there's literal chunks of them missing

You need Flexitol heel balm, don't bother with other brands, it's not expensive and you can get it from boots. It's a thick nourishing moisturiser and does a fabulous job and then pedegg the excess skin once it's been softened.

Kipperthedawg · 14/08/2024 22:09

Start with a hot bath, then use a foot file to take off a lot of the tougher skin. Then moisturise every night. It's probably fungal so getting some good fungal cream and using that regularly as well as treating all shoes with fungal spray will help.

Thank you so much, do I put it on and then whack some socks on?

Microplane

Singleandproud · 14/08/2024 22:12

Yes I put socks on after as it takes a while to absorb and I've got hard floors and went flying with my slippery feet last time I didn't put them on.

Morwenscapacioussleeves · 14/08/2024 22:13

Ouch!
Scrub off as much as you can then cover with compeed type blister plaster to allow it to heal from inside out. Keep replacing until you have some baby skin under there then it's foot cream & scrub every day.

This would 100% be me as well; thank you Grin

Needs moving to sporner corner

SproutLady · 14/08/2024 22:15

This is the footfile you need. Pricy but worth every penny: https://amzn.eu/d/dFw9mDV
Then Flexitol Heel repair, which as a pp has said is magic. If your feet kill, superglue the cracks together in an emergency until you can file and flexitol—it’s very effective!

Yes, Flexitol will fix it. You need to use it every night and file occasionally.

I am basically held together with Flexitol and 8 hour cream these days.

TheMousePipes · 14/08/2024 22:20

I have just purchased flexitol as my heels are as alarming as yours OP!

Soberfutures · 14/08/2024 22:20

I had the same issue a few months ago. I used O'Keefs healthy feet. And also bought some Footner to shed all the skin. I didn't think it worked at first but after about 4 days it kicked in. Was like a snake shedding lol.

If there's an actual crack that is opening up everytime you step on it, then the only thing I found to actually work was to tape the heel up with duct tape! I'd do this for up to a week (redoing after each shower) and scrub the heels while wet after the shower. Then once it had healed over enough, I would exfoliate plus moisturise after each shower

lindyloo57 · 14/08/2024 22:21

Do as others have said , then when the worst is gone try this, I saw it on YouTube, my heels are not as bad as yours, just normal hard skin, you dab some glycolic acid on then add vaseline on top, put socks on , over night it slowly dissolves the hard skin, depending how much hard skin you have it can take a few nights to see improvement. Mine looked better after two nights.

HowIrresponsible · 14/08/2024 22:22

Stop wearing sandals if you do.
I find that my heels get rough with it.

JuvenileBigfoot · 14/08/2024 22:22

I get mine from wearing heavy work boots for long hours.

I agree, soak, file (I use a pediegg), flexitol with socks, and for an extra step put slippers on and feet under the duvet- the heat helps the cream soak in.

Controversial: a pedicure from a proper nail bar (you know, the high Street ones where they still do old fashioned acrylics and you have to pay cash. Not a beauty salon). They'll shave that bad boy off with a knife. I know it can lead to infection if they go too deep, but they're pros and I've never had an issue.

Maarva · 14/08/2024 22:24

If it’s cracked like this I would suggest a hydrocolloid plaster to hold it together and heal it. Then when it’s healed you can remove the rough skin and keep it moisturised with a heavy duty foot cream to prevent future cracks.

I have one of these, it is by far the best I’ve ever used. Flexitol also!

unsync · 14/08/2024 22:30

Margaret Dabbs - all her foot products are really effective. There is a cracked heel balm and also foot hygiene cream for any fungal issues and ongoing softening. If you can, go to one of the clinics and get your feet seen to.

Callingallbutterflies · 14/08/2024 22:37

Get an appointment with a podiatrist. Flexitol is the best plus Margaret Dabbs product. Her foot file is awesome. Honestly, I would also go to the docs and have your bloods checked to rule out diabetes.

sunnywithmeatbols · 14/08/2024 22:44

The best footfile of all time is Diamancel Luxury Diamond Foot Buffer -
I'd get the #11 medium grit but there is also a 10 Fine Grit.

It is made of actual diamonds so is really hard and shockingly effective. It was recommended to me by an american friend and is a thing of wonder. It's expensive but definitely a get what you pay for job. It's awesome.

ValsCupcakes · 14/08/2024 22:46

Do those Footner socks dissolve gel polish?
