Hate my holiday hair!

I have long and very thick hair which means every time I wash it, I have to style it for about an hour at least otherwise it looks very frizzy and very puffy. When it is styled it looks very natural and wavy and a lot of people compliment me on my hair. Little do they know how much work goes into it looking that way. When I am on holiday I can't do absolutely anything with it. It is frizzy, puffy and it makes me feel like a completely different person. I associate feeling good with my hair looking good and I always feel crap and ugly on holiday as a result because with the heat and beach I can't do any styling to it. Anyone have the same issues or any tips? (Apart from giving up on going to hot countries!)

Sounds like a lot of maintenance.

I would suggest:

Leave in cream or anti humidity product when wet.
Then curl gel. Umberto Giannini curl jelly is a classic and widely available including in a travel size so you could try that out. Look up how to use it but basically smooth lots over hair, scrunch and then air dry which is fast if hot even for thick hair (mine is v thick too). It will dry crispy but then scrunch again and it should go into soft and defined waves or curls.

Or, french plait as per other suggestions. Don't waste your holiday styling your hair!

Longer term, deal with the frizz on the top layer by putting up in a loose satin scrunchie overnight and getting a satiny pillowcase. And make sure you go to a hairdresser that understands your hair. Somewhere either a specialist or that has lots of clients who are maybe greek or Turkish, or where the hairdresser has similar hair to you!

I avoid glycerin products like the plague for a start in humidity.

I just wash, curl creme and two rope braids in the day time, which gives me non-poofy waves for the evening! And yes, check out some easy up-dos on Youtube.

My hairs like a lions mane in hot weather so I stick it in a bun. Can't be bothered with all the styling it would need otherwise

I could have written this. I'm not just saying it. I've been called "lion head" before. 😂

I feel your pain. I went to Thailand recently and thought I'd scrape it back. It looked horrific all week. It put me in a mood because I felt awful all week. Frizzy and sweaty

Interesting about the glycerin. Will look out for it in ingredients list!

Have been to Thailand too and this was one of the worst hair experiences even though I love the place. No chance for my hair there 😂

I just constantly have it up with a clip. I try and at least straighten the front bits but after an hour or two they end up frizzed up and pinned back. Thing is it's not even a nice slick pinned back. I have bits of short frizz around the neck and sides which just makes me look rubbish. No nice strands of hair coming down or anything.

My hair is a holiday nightmare 😂

tbf other than washing it at night before going to bed and putting a shit tonne of oil in it (Charlotte mensah’s manketti hair oil I think it’s called, something along those lines anyway!) it mostly stays up in a tight bun so I can swim without the oil going into the pool.
Dh says my natural curls are nicer than when I wrangle it straight but I prefer it straight, it looks neat and tidy!

On holiday though I must confess I don’t give a shit, i embrace the fact that i don’t know anyone (if in a hotel) or that im just with my family who also don’t give a shit (if in a villa) and enjoy not wasting time faffing over ‘looking ready’.

The Kerastase Fusio Dose treatments are amazing! There is an anti frizz one but you can blend two together to make the perfect treatment for your hair.

They’re a salon treatment but not expensive and last up to 5 washes.
