As in the difference in terms of look, quality etc between diamonds and moissanite.
Also settings, and styles that will look nice on my 50 something slightly wrinkled hand.
Thank you!

I had mine made up by a local independent jewellery designer, chose the diamond, the metal and the setting - was less than held the price of a mall jewellers rings and the stone was better quality. Second hand is another good option as you will get a better diamond for your money however you need to go to a reputable jeweller, ask the quality of the diamond (we got a certificate with all the particulars on it for insurance purposes

@PetrichorSoul

Wowser! That's a rock!

I’m diamonds every time! I wouldn’t go lab because I’d rather have a smaller, real diamond, and I suspect they won’t hold their value in quite the same way (although resale value of diamonds is never 100% of the price you paid so worth bearing in mind!). I love antique diamonds. Mine is 1920s platinum. No one has ever asked the carat or clarity of it though! Most people don’t notice!!

If I were choosing now, I’d go for a hefty emerald, set in yellow gold.

LightDrizzle · 13/08/2024 13:57

I’d go diamond: mined, lab grown, vintage - depending on your pocket and preferences. The reason being durability. I love opals and aquamarine but they are much more vulnerable to damage and I want to wear my engagement ring every day. I have a solitaire in a plain band and it is bombproof. Pavê bands can lose stones which is a pain. I’m rough on my hands though.

Three stone rings look good on most people and are as durable as solitaires and give more sparkle for less money.

Look up Mohs scale of mineral hardness. I would choose something that's very durable. I like to wear my rings everyday so I chose a diamond in platinum. Ruby and Sapphire are the second hardest.

@Iceache your ring is so lovely!

So, my friend and I went to have a look at rings today, went in a couple of shops and I’ve found my ring!

I’m not a crier, but the minute I tried it I was in tears.

Quite opposite of what I was thinking of, it’s a diamond set. I just love it, marquis cut, sparkly, just beautiful (to me)

Emerald set on a yellow gold band if money were no object then I'd buy this ring. Yours is beautiful OP.
