I always have a wedgy and I'm fed up. How to avoid?

Wedgy? Wedgie? Weggie? Knickers scrunched up my arse.

I buy large knickers with plenty of fabric to cover everything, but it just seems to mean more fabric scrunched uncomfortably. I've tried various cuts and fabrics.

Is it my arse design? Is there anything that might solve this?

Larger knickers (as in size up)?
Does it happen with all clothes? eg is is trouser seams causing the issue?

Ineffable23 · 10/08/2024 09:43

I don't find that high leg knickers do this - whereas the "shorts" type do.

dudsville · 10/08/2024 09:46

You poor thing, but this gave me a sympathetic "been there" laugh remembering how awful it was until 3i found the pants for me. Thunderpants are expensive, but their tag line has always been "thunderpants, they won't go up your bum"! They're all I've worn for years. They're well made and last years.

dudsville · 10/08/2024 09:46

Ps, i wash on 30 and line dry, which I'm sure also helps them last.

CookingApron · 10/08/2024 09:46

Actually, trousers are worse than skirts I think? I'll have to try and notice.

I work in a job where I am always around people so I can't hoik and adjust through the day. It's driving me crackers.

Off to google thunderpants...

I also have a hungry bum!!! I gave up generally wear thongs -accepting they’ll be up my butt anyway but at least there isn’t excess fabric

ReadWithScepticism · 10/08/2024 09:50

If it is arse design, I'm wondering what design your arse has?

I never get this problem and the discovery that I may have, in this respect at least, superior arse design is giving me a rare experience of body positivity.

Is it a skinny arse problem or a meaty arse problem?

ReadWithScepticism · 10/08/2024 09:52

😂at hungry bum.

CookingApron · 10/08/2024 09:53

I have a generous arse.

I don't think I could wear thongs. I like a well-covered bottom.

Maybe I need bloomers, tied above the knee?

Standard option M&S full briefs. Bum shaped and almost immovable.
Expensive option - Sloggi and the like.

Arse design though. Could be the problem if you are some sort of outlier in the arse shape department. How would we know? DO NOT post a pic! 😂

CookingApron · 10/08/2024 10:04

Lol - definitely no arse pics incoming!

Maybe the problem is cheap pants? Is there a big difference between M&S and Kmart?

Now I think of it, I have one Berlei pair that are comfy and don't ride up. Maybe I need to spend more.

Just googled thunderpants. £23 for one pair of pants????

Gingernaut · 10/08/2024 10:07

Every time I got wedgies, my outer clothes were too tight.

Big M&S briefs and trousers which have plenty of 'room' (I'm a 22) and the problem sorted itself

You may need to go a size up on your trousers

theveryhungrybum · 10/08/2024 10:09

I feel like my username was made for threads like this! I had the same problem but seem to have solved it with a combination of full briefs and glute exercises to tone up my rear.

Domoda · 10/08/2024 10:10

Try sizing down, not up., ie try a smaller size. Too much excess fabric can be the problem and if they are a snugger fit they're less likely to cause a wedgie, in my experience

Kipperthedawg · 10/08/2024 10:12

Try women's boxers. Not the short type that are just pants but longer ones that border on cycling shorts.

Madamswearsalot · 10/08/2024 10:13

I size up on big pants (which means they look spectacular on the washing line). I wonder if cheaper pairs are not so generous of sizing.

You should try the bloomers - then if you still have issues you’ll know it’s arse design.

Radish12 · 10/08/2024 10:16

I always had this problem and had myself wondered about the arse design element (do I just have a really wide bum crack?). Wirarpa knickers from Amazon have been brilliant for me. They're about £20 for four, quite a thick cotton and definitely not sexy but oh my god they're comfortable.

Octomingo · 10/08/2024 10:17

I have this problem. Doesn't matter whether o buy my own dress size or one or two sizes up, they still go up my bum. I have friends and colleagues with the same issue.

I like a full coverage, so they go right up Overy my stomach, but they still don't cover my whole bum. It's worse in skirts and dresses for me. I wear belly busters, bikini and shorts and they all do the same. Actual bikini bottoms don't do this though.

Honks · 10/08/2024 10:18

The thunder pants look like old fashioned gym knickers! Perhaps they’re the answer….

Octomingo · 10/08/2024 10:18

But if they're snug, don't you get bulge?

mitogoshi · 10/08/2024 10:24

Sainsbury's full briefs solved this for me, the cotton multi pack type not fancy slippery material. One size up from dress size (that you really are, not what you wish to be!) cut labels out so you don't remember they are an 18Grin

eurochick · 10/08/2024 10:25

I solved this issue with boy shorts. The shape means they stretch across rather than upwards. Mine are mostly from M&S but I haven't bought any in a while so not sure if they still sell the same cut.

Oh god yes I bought a load of pants from the weekly Aldi specials one year - never, ever again. Useless. So uncomfortable. So please try M&S full briefs, the cheapest range is not expensive I bought a 5 pack recently for £7, it's not worth trying cheap versions from other places, it's really true that M&S know how to make undies.
