T Shirts and Big Boobs

Shambles123 · 09/08/2024 16:01

I am a size 10 but have wide shoulders and big boobs (32E, although not very full and round now post 3dc). I see other people looking great in normal round neckt shirts. Casual or for work, slogans or plain, with trousers, shorts or skirts. They look awesome and I feel like t shirts are a great summer staple.
I look so terrible in them!! All wide and bulky. Some v necks are ok, some slash neck are ok (but I think these are tops rather than t shirts to be pedantic).

Has anyone solved this dilemma? I love some of the slogan or vintage pics ones around at the moment (sob sob).

I think your answer is a really well fitting bra. My dd is a size 10 and a 30H, she can pull off a basic T shirt when she has her ridiculously expensive bra on underneath. Otherwise she has to find the right shape, fabric and neckline just as you’re describing

Shambles123 · 09/08/2024 16:13

Ah, I just wear M&S or plunge/push up type bras and haven't changed them for years...

I have H cup boobs and also agree, a well fitting bra is the 1st step. I only buy V neck T-shirts because the eye goes up and down the body- rather than just looking at boob. I also never wear a slogan, even worse if its across the boobs. It draws attention to them- and who really wants someone ready/staring a slogan blazoned across your boobs! What about just a cool, cotton blouse/top for summer?

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 09/08/2024 17:04

I don't think anyone with big boobs looks great in crew necks, just one of those things .

Do you know the brand of bra she wears by any chance? I am 36H, I wear M&S minimisers which are comfy but can’t say they do much for my shape!

BigPussyEnergy · 09/08/2024 17:11

I have big boobs and agree a well fitting bra is the first step (I’ve actually had friends - when drunk - poking mine to check that they’re real and wondering why they’re so perky at the age of 50 Grin )

I love a wide slash neck too and halter necks, but struggle with those due to bra straps showing. I usually go for a less slim fitting crew neck or a v neck.

Timeandtune · 09/08/2024 17:14

I am a 32FF and only 5ft 3ins so I can sympathise.
I would avoid plunge or push up styles to be honest . I go for underwired classic styles by brands like Freya and on the rare occasion I wear a Tshirt I definitely stick to v necks.

justmewithmylifetoday · 09/08/2024 17:19

I'm a 34H size 14/16 and wear t shirts from m&s or h&m. Id recommend sizing down in h&m, even two sizes if an oversized style t shirt. They do loads of fun vintage prints/styles.

londonmummy1966 · 09/08/2024 17:42

Definately sort the bra out - this is a helpful chart to find what you need - note the styles that suit your breast shape and o and tr some on in a decent stockist. https://www.fantasie.com/uk/en/advice/bra-styles-for-your-shape/ I do think that V necks or Henleys worn open work best - I can also wear a lowish round neck under a v neck and get the same up and down effect.

Totally relate. I also don't like v necks as they drag my ageing face down so I'm screwed all ways except I run v cold so often have another layer on. I think it's all about the neckline and the sleeves and the fit.

I can get away with a crew neck if it's not too tight but not too baggy. Some of the really good quality thick ones like the Arket ones are just too structured.

I also don't like it when the edging around the neck is too thick. Thinner is more flattering if you are a bit bulky in your top half as it's more delicate.

Sleeves which flap out or are too loose emphasise the issue. Look for t-shirts where the arm is more fitted. Or could turn them back.

Overall not too thick material so it drapes nicely.

Apileofballyhoo · 09/08/2024 21:37

Have you measured the boob or bust way?

SecretWitch · 09/08/2024 21:49

I feel your pain

I look like an American football star in most tshirts.. all broad shoulders and puffed out chest.

I find thinner and well fitted tshirts with a lower neckline make me less booby

PraiseTheSunshine · 09/08/2024 21:56

I'm a size 10 and wear a 30F bra and I usually wear a minimizer bra with t shirts otherwise I feel a bit bulky, especially in oversized t-shirts.

Ponderingwindow · 09/08/2024 22:01

K cup here. A good bra and either a v neck or a slash neck. Occasionally a deep scoop neck.

I never buy crew neck shirts of any kind. They make large breasts look comical.

Elizo · 09/08/2024 22:05

Feel the same. Only thing that looks ok is scoop or slash. Standard t-shirts are a no- go

Smokedsausagesupper · 10/08/2024 06:38

This goes against everything you may think about t shirts but I had the same dilemma.
Tried these cropped, boxy t shirts and they are perfect and very flattering, drape well and sit just below the waist.
Neck not too tight.
They do packs of mixed colours but you could try one first to see what you think.

I'm a similar size to the poster you quoted and my two most used bras are Bravissimo Millie and a Panache one I can't remember the model of.

But it's not just about the size, the best bras are the right shape for you as well. I struggle with plunge cups as my boobs are set quite close together (so tend to fall out the middle even when the size "fits") and I also need side sling support as my boobs are quite wide, so it helps keep them pointing forward in a way that's secure and comfortable

DelilahBucket · 10/08/2024 07:32

Another one here to say it's what's underneath that makes a difference. I wear a 32 back bra, 30 sometimes, and I wear a size 12-14. I would place money you're in the wrong size. Check out Boob or Bust as a starting point or get booked in at Bravissimo.
I wear crew neck t-shirts everyday, from all over the place on the high street and I'm usually a 32H and tend to stick to full cup or balconette styles.

Shambles123 · 10/08/2024 07:40

Thank you so much everyone! I really haven’t thought about bra sizes since after dc3. I am pretty sure all have come from online orders since then. I’m going to sort this out first then use the t shirt tips!

Yes! The American football star is exactly how I feel!

I wear t-shirt bras from Freya, the deco usually, and with t-shirts I like i often modify them, there are you tube videos to help but I got a pizza wheel style fabric cutter and cut out the crew neck making it scoop, and also cut the arms into more of a cap sleeve.. if I can find a good women's fit t-shirt then they are usually perfect, recently got some from neon marl .

Dilbertian · 10/08/2024 08:48

Definitely start with well-fitted bras. There are an important investment in both your comfort and your appearance. Bravissimo and Fenwicks are good at fitting.

Get t-shirts designed for women's curves; not 'unisex', which are actually men's, designed for men's flat, hipless bodies. The shaping from shoulders through bust and waist to hips matters more than the sleeves or collar.

Start well away from M&S bra fittings. They will tell you that you are a 40D, when decent fitters will shock you with a 34G bra that looks like a ballista, but supports you comfortably and elegantly. Once you've understood your size and what a well-fitting bra looks and feels like, then buying M&S bras in the right size is fine.

Shambles123 · 10/08/2024 10:32

Boob or bust method says 30F, cannot remember where I last got measured, think it was after bfing dd2 (so about 12 years ago!).

Go to a proper independent fitting shop if there is one near you. They’re definitely worth looking for.
Bravissimo have the high street market, they’re ok, but choices are limited. I don’t know where in the country you are, but there is a really good independent near me, I can pm you
