Desperately need make up help. Bronzer, tinted moisturiser, or something else?

I need help!

I’m going to an event overseas soon. It is a dressed up event and I’ve got my outfit but struggling with make up. Here is my dilemma. What do I wear on my face? I will be there a few weeks before so my face will have some tan on it. My usual tinted moisturiser will look too pale when I am tanned but I can’t go and get colour matched before I go because I won’t be tanned!

Also it’s in a hot country so I don’t want anything heavy. I only wear Nars pure radiant tinted moisturiser in the UK so don’t want a heavy foundation. What do I do? I need something but not sure what. Do I just use bronzer all over? Will that look strange? Or if I need something else how on earth do I get the right shade for just a light coverage?

I’m rubbish with make up so any help is very welcome.

How old are you and what is your skin type? Difficult to help without that info.

I am 50 and skin type is normal but I do need some kind of coverage.

I use Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer which you might like if you use the nars one, and if I have a bit of a tan, I mix it with the lightest shade of the Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer bronzer - it comes in a smaller tube.

You can get tanning drops etc now, but I haven't used them as I have cool undertones and they're all too warm. With tanning drops, you just mix them with your tinted moisturizer or foundation.

I would also ensure to use a bit of powder to help with shine, esp around nose/mouth and under eyes.

Chanel Les Beiges fresh water tint sounds like a good fit for you, its finish is very very sheer and looks natural

Is there anywhere that gives away samples of foundation? Some shops in my country will fill a little pot with a couple of different foundation shades to take home. You could try swinging by a few makeup counters and collecting a small stash in the darker shades. You could also mix them with your own foundation to darken it.

Just adding, the Kevyn aucoin foundation balm lasts forever, a sample pot should last your entire holiday because you just pop a tiny bit on a brush.

I get it. I think MrsBertMacklin's suggestion is good:

"I use Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer which you might like if you use the nars one, and if I have a bit of a tan, I mix it with the lightest shade of the Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer bronzer - it comes in a smaller tube."

I think you should either take your usual tinted moisturizer or the Laura Mercier one but bring a darker shade to mix with it. Then you are covered (as it were) when your face tans. The darker you tan, the more of the darker shade you mix in.

You can get samples of stuff on Ebay.

I would not go overboard with bronzer but that's a personal preference. I like a natural looking cream blush.
Let us know what you decide!

Hey

I'm 50 so get it.

I use Chantecaille.

It's good.

I would just buy the next darkest shade (or a couple of shades depending on how much you tan) of my usual foundation. I often take two or three shades of foundation with me when I go on holiday.

TheOGCCL · 09/08/2024 09:14

I would buy a cream bronzer and mix it with your Nars. I have a good one which is discontinued but there are loads around

Thank you for all the suggestions. I didn’t think of mixing a cream bronzer with foundation or even taking some a couple of shades darker. I will experiment at home before I ho.

Sample pots of different shades and brands is a genius idea.

I use this and the Chanel bronzer cream which helps me look less pale. A little goes along way so it was worth the expense from me as this is the second summer I have used it.
