I am a serious overpacker and lover of summer clothes going on an unexpected weeks holiday and I am giddy with excitement.
Have enough summer clothes for a month at least so can't take it all.
We have paid for full luggage allowance as we have become too used to throwing g everything in the car and self catering .
I LOVE wearing my lovely summer things so not looking for minimalist but curious as to what others would pack .
Anyone care to share how much
You would take ?
So far I have -
3 swimsuits - 2 bikini 1 one piece
2 cover ups
2 dresses throw on for breakfast / daytime
Shorts and vest top for day trip
An array of dresses for evenings
Linen strappy jumpsuit
Sandals x 2 one for day one for even g and flip flops
But I can feel temptation to add more ..

I love Rhodes, been a gazillion times 😁
Sound like you've covered all bases but what about a pair of sliders or Birkenstock type sandals in case you want to go sightseeing, a pair of plastic flipflops for the beach and a hat, I love a hat with a small brim so I can read, also a couple of nighties, I have "holiday" nighties, short cotton ones.
Also take some travel wash to wash your swimmies and unmentionables 😜
I always take too much and it comes back unworn.

StarlightLady · 08/08/2024 23:02

You are drastically planning to overpack. Remember you have to carry it.

2 bikinis max.
3 sun dresses
Something for a windy evening (cardy/fleece)
Couple of tees
Shorts or skirt.
Sarong
Sunhat.

Any extras can easily be bought locally. Anything washed through (knickers/bras etc) will dry overnight.

Personally, l would go carry on. If your bag is over your head it won’t be lost by the airline, and you are straight in a taxi after passports.

I went earlier this year, it's super casual I wouldn't worry

Thank you I am so excited ! I love a hat but think I have enough overpacking issues without buying anything else!

I have Archies flip flops for outings covered .

Thanks I am not worried about those practicalities - this is a first time family package holiday - wheel bag to and fro transport - we are on a bus transfer so will be waiting for everyone's bags regardless.

I would add more cover ups if it’s going to be mainly beach/poolside with just a few outings. Once they get wet they get horribly creased! Mine do anyway

Mozzarellaballs · 08/08/2024 23:51

I was born in Rhodes I am half Greek, I bloody love the place and just got back. Not much help but it was soo hot and even I got into the pool and sea quickly this year

GettingStuffed · 09/08/2024 07:51

There doesn't seem to be much clothes for dat to day wear. I'd take at least 7 t-shirts and 3 or 4 pairs of shorts, but we don't sit around the pool or on the beach. At least half the holiday is usually spent on sightseeing and on Rhodes there's so much to see you'll miss out just lying by the pool.

2gorgeousboys · 09/08/2024 09:00

For a week in Rhodes earlier in the summer I took;

3 bikinis and 3 cover ups
2 pairs of shorts
2 vest tops
Linen shirt
2 dresses for evening
1 skirt and vest top for evening
1 jumpsuit
1 pair linen trousers

3 pairs of sandals
1 pair of flip flops

It was a flop by the pool holiday so didn't need much for during the day other than bikinis. When we go next week I'll take more shorts and tops for during the day and a couple more dresses for evening instead of the jumpsuit and linen trousers.

mitogoshi · 09/08/2024 09:20

Hat, shirt to put over the best top for sight seeing to protect your skin, lots of sun screen!

holidayfever2024 · 09/08/2024 21:26

Thanks all am going to try to follow your guidance and not start adding too much else - we will see I have 'several' dresses to choose from so I will try not to put them all in!
So excited.

when I went to Crete a couple of years ago I had good intentions of wearing maxi skirts/dresses, linen trousers etc in the evening but it was just so hot, I stayed in my shorts every night. I’d take more T-shirts and shorts, shortish dresses, kaftans.

Greytulips · 10/08/2024 00:25

I’m an under packer.

2 swimsuits or bikini.
1 cover up - oversized jersey tshirt - soft and doesn’t crease - dries well.
3 T-shirt’s and 3 shorts
1 light weight dress maybe 2
flip flops and sandals (1 each)
jacket or cardigan

Generally pair down colours so mix and match.

I wear leggings trainers for travel

Like PP said carry on is the way forward.

Even things like shampoo/conditioner is cheap in boots after check in and much cheaper than £30 per bag each way.

If someone is going on a package holiday to a hotel and has hold luggage allowance as part of their package , I don't understand why anyone would think of just taking a handful of clothes as carry on. Suitcases nowadays have wheels so why wouldn't you pack a full allowance ? Just leave a bit of room in your case in case you want to buy something while you are there .

It's better to have extra and not need it, than find it's hotter or cooler than expected, or that the hotel restaurant is more or less casual .

Just look out how many cases get lost en route. That is why on short haul l always try to avoid being separated from my bag.

I agree I am definitely not interested in going minimal and we already have the baggage allowance.
I started the thread as was curious what normal packing looks like as I do know I tend to take too much and it can't all be worn in a week .
I love clothes and I love getting dressed up for a warm evening out too so don't want to scrimp on one or two outfits !

Good advice I have picked my lightest dresses to take but I am wondering if the linen jumpsuit is just too much fabric and won't be worn .

Depends when OP is going. Assuming it's fairly soon then the greek islands in August are absolutely roasting. Most people will be by the pool or on the beach for the majority of their holiday.
You really would be hardcore if you're able to manage more than the odd boat trip with kids in tow.

OP, I think your original post was spot on.
I'm in Crete at the moment and have lived mainly in bikinis (x3), beach coverups and a selection of nice dresses or whatever for evenings.

ViscountDreams · 11/08/2024 10:20

I'm going to Zante for 10 nights next week. Standard AI Hotel next to a beach with dh and 3 kids.

I packed yesterday and have:

  • 2 swimsuits
  • 2 swimsuit cover ups
  • Nice wide brimmed straw look hat
  • 2 x Sunglasses
  • 2 x thin, thin playsuits to wear in hotel room/balcony only

Day:

  • 5 x v neck spaghetti vests
  • 3 x shorts
  • 3 x day dresses, very very light
  • 1 x day playsuit
  • 1 floaty white shirt thing that goes with everything, for if I need to cover shoulders/arms

Evening:

  • 6 short 'nicer' dresses
  • 2 long dresses
  • 2 tops and skirts

Shoes:

  • 2 x block heel wedges for evenings
  • Day - primark £1 Flip-flops in a variety of colours 😂. They're the only day shoes I'm taking. I've tried a variety of other cheap and expensive sandals/flip flops/sliders previously and whether I'm slouching around the pool or going on a 3 hour walk sightseeing, there's nothing I find as comfy as a Primark flipflop 😀
ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 11/08/2024 11:56

@holidayfever2024
It probably depends on the style of the jumpsuit and the thickness of the fabric . A lot of the linen clothes I have are quite a thick fabric. And unless it's sleeveless and/or crop leg, there is nowhere for the air to get to your body .

StasisMom · 11/08/2024 12:46

I'm just back from Crete. You won't need a coverup for evenings..

PrincessHoneysuckle · 11/08/2024 15:31

I wear short swing dresses which don't cling to the stomach.I bloat more on holiday no matter what carbs I avoid.
Have a great time!
