Nail tech used paint on gel remover...is this bad?

I went to a new nail place a couple of weeks ago and she used that thick acetone paste that you can paint on the nail to remove my old builder gel. I was surprised as I thought this was an easy method for home use. It made my nails (which I'd explained are thin and weak) curl up from the sides painfully. My little finger nails looked like tubes! She filed them as well cutting my skin with the edge of the file and again when she nipped my (non existent) cuticles. The cutting thing has happened before at other salons but I've never seen a nail tech use that remover before. Anyone else experienced similar? Should I avoid this place again even if I don't need a removal?

If I had thin weak nails Id be avoiding all nail bars like the plague and allow my nails to heal

I wouldn't go back and I think I would also give your nails a break from gels. My nails feel thin and weak afterwards too and it's using gel that causes this for me. I have them done very occasionally but then have to regrow the whole nail before it feels ok again.

Find a new salon. Ask them in advance what their techniques are. At my salon they hand buff or file buff to remove polish and some gel or if a total removal they still wrap your nails then buff.

It's not gels that cause my thin nails; that's just genetics...they've always been this way but I guess gels make it worse! It's so odd as I have really strong hair. My sister's nails are the same! Yes I need to find somewhere else I think. I started builder gel because you can just keep infilling it as removal is always a problem for me but this place wouldn't infill someone else's builder.

Everytime you get builders gel filled off you are losing yet another layer of nail plate, making your already thin nails thinner

The nail techs. I follow , have learned from never take builders off completely to avoid the risk to the nail plate, they file to nearly but not quite all removed, so leave a very thin coat which they then apply new over

I never file mine off, nor do I take the base coat of my gels, just take off the colour

@suki1964 yes that's why I started having it but my previous place closed temporarily so I had to go somewhere new and they refused to infill 'someone else's work' as did a few other places I tried so had to have it all off!
