What do you wear to work

I'm due to return from mat leave in a few weeks and have no idea how to dress for the office anymore. Slightly bigger than I was before & more of a tummy than I was used to dressing for (now UK size 12). Doesn't need to be particularly smart but would like some differentiation between my work wardrobe & my 'mum wardrobe' that I live in the rest of the time. Ideally not too pricey & layers to allow for dealing with the heating up/down battles in the office. What workwear items do you love/feel good in?

What sort of work do you do? Corporate lawyer? Artist? Engineer? What sort of company?

BetsyRegards · 06/08/2024 17:20

Yes - what sort of work (culture)?

And what sort of budget??

I wear kind of toning trousers, blouse and cardigan. I tend to wear floppy, drapey things. Wide legged trousers and sometimes long cardigans (knee length not bum length).
I got a few patterned blouses in mango which have done well.

Italian magic trousers, tshirts, blazers, trainers or ballet flats. Short dress with tights, brogues and wool coat when it’s cooler. I’m a middle manager in the public sector also size 12

Post mat leave I'm a big fan of stretch waist skirts and a semi fitted top which hides the bulge! But I'm a 16-18
Also shift dresses hide tummies well
I'm autumn colours but tend to stick to black/white/navy as easier to pair.
Today I wore a high neck top which was white with black stripes and a stretchy wrap skirt. Tomorrow I've got a shift dress, I'll probably wear a skirt and loose shirt Friday.
I work in a law office.

I see the youngsters (under 40!) In wide leg trousers, jumpsuits and summer dresses around our offices.

Public sector & not public facing so it really can be quite casual

I work in a smart casual office. My general work uniform is:

Magic trousers like a PP
Blouse or shirt tucked in
Smart trainers or sandals in summer
Blazer jacket

When it's really hot, a midi dress and sandals. I don't wear anything strappy/showing off my shoulders although some people that I work with do.

Or in the colder months....a wrap dress, tights and boots

Sometimes a longline, thin cardigan (knee length or even longer)

Public sector but not public facing so very casual, or can be. And budget - wouldn't want to pay anymore than say £30 for most items. Usually an F&F/matalan/M&S fan if that gives an idea.

I work in a public sector office but not public facing too, I tend to wear black or navy ankle grazer trousers, usually with a striped/basic patterned smart T-shirt (got a couple of boat/slash necked ones) a
short cardi and smart trainers.

I do struggle to find stuff that is suitable for the commute, smart enough but not so smart that I stand out amongst the young casual dressers I work with.

I do occasionally wear midi length shirt dresses in the summer too.
