DD15 first make up

Hi everyone, my DD is getting more interested in make up now and asked me to get her a couple things.

We ended up walking past the Charlotte Tilbury counter last weekend and it was impossible to drag her away, so I promised to take her shopping and get her a few starter things

Could anyone recommend me any brands or products that a young girl would enjoy? The brands I use (Chanel, Bobbi Brown) probably aren't the best for her. I want to get her something a little more 'fun' and targeted at a younger generation

Happy to treat her to something a little high end because this is her first experience with make up, I'd like it to be special

What's wrong with Charlotte Tilbury?

It's ideal for teenagers.

NerrSnerr · 06/08/2024 13:28

At 15 I'd be asking her what brands she wants to try.

JudgeBurrito · 06/08/2024 13:29

'Drugstore' brands like Maybelline, Rimmel, MaxFactor, IT Cosmetics, Revolution etc are a good place to start. Not too expensive, so if she tries something and it doesn't work it's not a huge loss. For something more high-end/more of a treat, look at Benefit, Mac, Urban Decay, Rare Beauty. She'll probably have seen brands on Tik Tok she wants to try.

Nothing wrong with it at all, we can definitely get her a couple things there. I just feel like it's limiting to only buy her one brand while she's still figuring out what works for her and what doesn't, there might be others that are even better

Thanks @NerrSnerr I did ask, she likes the look of Charlotte Tilbury and Space NK. Other than that she isn't sure

Thank you for the suggestions @JudgeBurrito

I bought Rimmel initially for my DDs, but they've now started suggesting other brands.

Revolution makeup is great. They're cruelty free too. They do some great pallettes with bright colours and they're pretty cheap. Elf is also a good one. They've had a couple "viral" products and dupes and again very affordable.

Oh and NYX. Some really fun colours I think would be ideal for teens.

GordonLaChance · 06/08/2024 14:19

I recommend starting with ELF. Cruelty free and very reasonably priced (and very popular on TikTok!)

emily012 · 06/08/2024 14:19

Hi! For a fun, youthful vibe, try brands like Glossier, ColourPop, or Too Faced. They're perfect for beginners and have great packaging. Have a blast shopping!

Katiepoes · 06/08/2024 15:53

My 14 yearold loves ELF, Glossier and NYX, and pretty much anything from Korea. Glossier is a little pricy but the others are all great value for teens and are not 'cringe', a fate worse than death I understand 😀

mrstambourinewoman · 06/08/2024 17:22

Rare beauty stuff is lovely, not as expensive as CT but dearer than the likes of Elf. I've liberated some eyeshadow and highlighter from dd's room

afaloren · 06/08/2024 17:37

Benefit? Glossier do some nice stuff and it’s not too heavy.

learieonthewildmoor · 06/08/2024 18:07

Glossier, Ilia, Kosas and Morphe.

Malahide · 06/08/2024 18:12

Teens and young women prefer Space NK these days - Milk, Glossier, Kosas & Rare Beauty are all the rage. More affordable too.

Milk in particular is DD’s favourite. She has used their concealers and foundations for years, lovely formulations for young skin. She’s also partial to a bit of Laura Mercier and Dior if I’m buying 🤣

NewJobNewMeNewLife · 06/08/2024 23:07

i love Charlotte Tilbury but it isn’t a brand I would associate with teenagers.
the best thing I did was buy my daughter a lesson with a mua- she learnt the importance of skincare, brush hygiene, great application techniques and it was really mix and match what she recommended from nyx, elf, primark to nars and mac. Would really recommend it- they aren’t tied to one brand so generally know what’s best and can suit it to different budgets. Look online for make up artists near you and see whose work you like.

Space NK and CT are lovely but £££. Maybelline is a good starter brand ..the eraser concealer is an absolute classic. Also like their lipsticks
