If this helps someone else - nothing to wear…

As much as I love clothes and style, I am a very modest shopper and over-analyse every purchase. Still get it wrong occasionally and very slow to adopt even a good trend… Anyway, recently I found myself a bit overwhelmed by what I have and yet feeling like I do have is never right for the occasion.

So, I have decided to create sections in my Style board on Pintrest (Office, WFH, Activewear, Weekend and Special Occasion). And then I realised that a lot of images I had in Style do not fit into either group realistically, 100%. So, it’s back to research on pins but rather than only save what I like, I will follow function and shop the inspiration accordingly. E.g. love the oversize shirt, cropped jeans and heels but it does not fit - heels to high for weekend, jeans not OK for work, too casual for special occasion. So, some can sit in Just Beautiful section without purpose.

Isn't that exactly what Pinterest is for? Am I missing something?

VeryExpensive · 05/08/2024 20:40

Yes, except I was saving everything into one big pile, using that for inspiration to shop then realised none of it fitted the real life purposes.

That's such a smart strategy. I may use this to review my board too.

Love that OP

So like an online wardrobe of clothing you own that you have separated into different sections so you can see all your clothes and can put together outfits without looking at them physically?
or see something that you can then see needs something you don’t own that would go better with it so you can keep an eye out when shopping.

ye good idea. You wouldn’t forget about the dress or trousers in the back of the wardrobe.

or is it all inspiration stuff that you want but don’t have.

sorry If I’m being stupid I don’t use Pinterest so not sure how it works

@Ginkypig On Pinterest you can save images with as imagines of outfits. I think OP is saying that instead of just saving everything to one board she has different ones - workwear, weekends and one for things that are lovely but maybe not practical. Not her clothes just photos found online.

Best advice I took from this board was to imagine different scenarios and then work out what I would like to wear for each one to be stylish. So everything from dog walking and WFH to drinks with friends or dinner out. Then work out in my wardrobe which of those activities I had covered. Focus my time and ££ on the gaps. Stopped me buying yet another pair of wide leg trousers or a summer dress when actually what I needed was new (and flattering) leggings and a decent raincoat.

Boxina · 06/08/2024 18:32

I've read your post three times and can't work out what you mean OP sorry.

@MooonDreamz explained better than me, with just one revision - images saved are outfits by category that I like. Some of the items I may already have (or similar), some are for inspiration. These are all focussed on full outfits / styling. Then, when I see something I love in the outfit but do not have, I save on the Wanties board to budget for or wait until the fancy passes.

@BeBopBeBop And that is exactly what I found to be the impact - instead of loafer mules I actually need walking shoes for canal walks, given that I walk along a rural canal in the Midlands, not Seine left bank.

That sounds useful if a bit complicated.
Why not just download a free app?
I use Whering & everything's on there.
I've just returned from holiday & downloaded all of my holiday outfits onto the summer holiday lookbook. So I have a record of what to wear in the future. My main aim is wear all my clothes & not buy more of the same.
