Broken capillaries on cheeks make me look like an old sailor, help!

I'm young, I'm fresh, I'm youthful, so what the hell is happening to me?

OK, so in reality I'm 27, very grey and sleep deprived, but none of these things explain why my cheeks look like OS maps now. In the last couple of months I've gone from being of a rosy-cheeked complexion to being ruddy ruddy old looking.

What can I do to prevent more of these delights from invading my cheeks?

Have you been to see the GP? You should check for a medical cause first rather then blaming getting older.

ib · 14/04/2008 14:10

Sounds like rosacea. Have you checked whether it's that?

MascaraOHara · 14/04/2008 14:13

Oh funny you started this, I noticed one to the left of my mouth this morning.

I'm 29.. maybe it's out age. I'm very fair skinned, are you?

My very genteel MIL had them and was concerned they made her look like a well seasoned port drinker.

She had them done at the hairdressers/salon. Believe me, if my 80+ year old MIL is having it done, it doesn't even count as frivolous new fangled vanity!

IAteRoseMaryConleyForBreakfast · 14/04/2008 18:57

Wow. Don't know if it's rosacea. It's definitely been a sudden thing. I've been to the doc's SO much recently though, they'll think I have Munchausen's.

Probably ought to check them out before salon trip, but am v reassured by your elderly MIL having them done, so thank you!

Try not to wash your face in too hot or too cold water. Don't drink too much (red wine, in particular).
As for treatment - don't know about zapping but touche eclat by YSL under a light foundation will cover them all day til you take the makeup off.

i got lots of these when i was a bit over enthusiastic with a facial scrub

Anna8888 · 15/04/2008 13:56

My dermatologist has zapped a few of these for me in the past, and I put on a serum every morning that makes them disappear (for the day).

greeneyedgirl · 15/04/2008 19:31

Have read this with interest. Have just been diagnosed with possible (very mild) rosacea. Seems to only affect my nose and it does flush very easily. I have red patches on both sides of my nose, which contain quite alot of spider/thread veins, has anyone had any treatment to remove them from this area? If so, how much did it cost? I am seriously consiering getting this done in the near future. Were there any after effects and how long did they last?

zippitippitoes · 15/04/2008 19:33

what is this zapping

Verso · 16/04/2008 08:10

I'm interested in this too. I have mild rosacea (only bothers me because I have very fair skin - think my GP thought I was mad asking about it) - but it flares up from time to time and makes me selfconscious. Where can you get it treated? And how do you get yourself a dermatologist?!

Sputnik · 16/04/2008 09:43

Yes, can we have a more technical explanation of this "zapping" please.
And what is this serum Anna?

lilacclaire · 16/04/2008 10:17

I've got these on my chest area, over exposure to the sun in my younger years unfortunately, some on my face as well.
Went to get some zapped, but it didnt' work, the therapist then admitted their machine was shite!!

Anna8888 · 16/04/2008 11:42

Zapping - when the dermatologist sticks a tiny needle in the thread vein and runs an electric current so that the vein shrivels and dies.

It is a tiny bit painful for a split second. Afterwards you get a very small scab that falls off in a day or two.

The serum I use is by Carole Franck and is called Active Serum for Redness. I have a full "prescription" of an anti-red vein skincare régime from Carole Franck (night cream, day cream, two sorts of aromatherapy potions plus the serum) and they work very well indeed.

If you have an anti-redness facial at Carole Franck you come out looking white with all the veins gone. A bit disconcerting, actually

Anna8888 · 16/04/2008 11:43

I got myself a dermatologist here in Paris ages ago just by looking one up near my then office and making an appointment. I got lucky, because she is really very good (will happily pass on details to anyone who wants to come over to Paris for treatment) - all my girlfriends now go to her, and I have even sent my partner along to have his milia removed.

Sputnik · 16/04/2008 13:22

Thanks Anna (googles Carole Franck......)

saje · 20/04/2008 14:32

HELP! Im 40 now and have always suffered from facial redness - its v bad now and want to find a treatment that works. Ive just googled Carole Franck and cant find a clinic that does her anti redness treatments. Where can i find one!!?

Heated · 20/04/2008 14:53

I'm going to see the dermatologist at hospital on Friday about redness/bad skin which might be rosacea, although typically I'm actually going through a really good skin phase at the minute, darn it, thanks to a mixture of change of skin care regime, an unplanned detox thanks to laryngitis and some microdermabrasion.

I think from what I've read diet can play a part - caffeine, spicy foods, the usual really.

If the NHS won't treat it, I intend go private. Some places offer a free consult, or the nearest clinic to me I've investigated charge £79 with the doctor. I think it can take up to 3-4 treatments. Microsclerotherapy involves injection with a very fine, almost invisible needle. Or there is laser treatment which treats the vein and the redness.

saje · 21/04/2008 20:33

Good luck Heated - let me know how you get on. Maybe have a curry washed down with half a bottle of red thurs night..............

Heated · 21/04/2008 20:37

Lol! I'm very tempted.
