Anyone out there with similar straight hair problems

Birchey · 31/07/2024 21:08

If you hair like this, what hairstyle do have?

Super straight
Weight in the length, but no volume in the roots

If my hair gets past my collar bone it just hangs there, doing nothing for me
If I tie it up high it suits me more but gives me a headache as all the weight is in the length.
Mid or low pony just looks a bit drab
I don't have time or at least I'm not the kind of person to find time to curl/wave it every day and it doesn't hold curls well anyway so would need to use a s**t ton of product and would still drop.
It gets oily so have to wash it every day.
Its super soft and did I mention straight? 🤣

Oh and I don't suit a bob, don't have a particularly round face but with a bob it make my face look very round as I just end up tucking it behind my ears as can't tie it up.

Just never know what to do with it

Yes and I don't know what to do either!!!

EveryOtherNameTaken · 31/07/2024 21:17

Same here.

Sometimes twist it round in a circle on top of my head abd put a fat scrunching round it. Looks quite nice and cool in this heat.

Birchey · 31/07/2024 21:27

I'm currently watching the Dallas cheerleader doc on Netflix and their hair looks amazing which doesn't help!

But they are working wonders with the rollers and wands...I just don't have the skills to do even a subtle flick

Get the airwrap

Birchey · 31/07/2024 21:29

@threonate do you have similar hair? Just my hair doesn't always hold well and I know its pricey

threonate · 31/07/2024 21:30

I have similar hair. Stopped using silicones completely because they weigh my hair down so much! Air wrap gives body and shape and movement

Fluffywithteeth · 31/07/2024 21:36

Oh I have this hair!! Bloody nana miskouri is what I look like!! Am thinking of getting a buzz cut….. pure desperation!

weekfour · 31/07/2024 21:40

Ha. Yep. My daughter often laments the fact she inherited 'Mother's shit hair'! We also have loads of it. Each strand is fine but there's tons of it.

I have mine cut into a bob about every two years. Then I grow it out coz it looks shit. Then I cut it again.

Maybe I need to investigate an air wrap...

Birchey · 31/07/2024 22:01

Yes I have been told this too, fine hair but lots of it...just not in the roots it would seem!

Ok, have had a look at the dyson airwrap and at least there is a 90 day return if you don't like it. Just might have to wait until Christmas in the hope Santa might be kind to me this year 🤣

Yep me too and I'm utterly shit at styling. Just gad it cut into a bob and it is so thick at the ends now, it us practically sticking out sideways. Waiting for it to grow again. 😫

UnbelievableLie · 31/07/2024 22:06

I'm right there with you all! And no amount of expensive product and appliances has made any difference - my hair does not hold curls AT ALL!

Shallysally · 31/07/2024 22:19

I have this hair too. Mine is shoulder length.
I use the Elvive hylauronic shampoo and conditioner. Whilst it’s still wet I pop some VO5 oil on. Tigi bed head styling crème then a blow dry spray. Dry it smooth and run the straighteners through.

I have a parlux hairdryer, best dryer I’ve ever had.

A good cut helps, no layers but thinning out and a bit of framing round face and chipping in at the bottom to avoid any wideness.

When it’s hot I clip it up out the way.

Shallysally · 31/07/2024 22:20

Oh sorry, forgot about the curling bit, yeah it’s just a no!

Moonface31 · 31/07/2024 22:22

Another one with this exact hair 🙋🏻‍♀️ following with interest!

EwwSprouts · 31/07/2024 22:26

Joining but with no advice to offer. Someone must have an idea.

ShanequaAndWhat · 31/07/2024 22:26

There's no weight to my hair but apparently I have fine hair but a lot of it. How are you drying it? I bunch mine up if leaving to dry but if blow drying, I bumpf it up. Probably going to butcher the description of how but I'll attempt. I brush it and lift and then dry that section. I do that all around my face and get a reasonable amount of volume.

There's an advert I see for some kind of mouse that give crazy volume. Think it's called color wow.

ShanequaAndWhat · 31/07/2024 22:28

Oh and I use a flat paddle brush. The bristles would be facing the ceiling and you blow up and along.

Probs really obvious but just in case. Hairdressers never do this and I look flatter than a pancake.

CakeAtFour · 31/07/2024 22:28

I have this hair! Nothing I’ve ever tried will hold a curl or even a wave in my hair. Even when I’ve had it done at a salon for a special occasion, I get 2-3 hours at best, then back to straight and floppy.

I can give it a bit of body and movement by using styling products and drying with the Revlon blow dry brush thingie, but it’s not a miracle solution. I still have to wash and re-style every day if I want to wear it down, or the roots get flat and greasy.

Also struggle with nice ‘up do’ styles. Watching with interest.

user1471554720 · 31/07/2024 22:31

I have hair like this amd I have the ends down to my shoulders with layers on the top and sides. I have a side parting.

The top looks like it has a bit more volume as I have layers.

I get the ends thinned every 6 months.

I wash and use light morroccan oil to moisturise. Then I use a leave in volumising mousse. I either blow dry pulling the hair to create volume or leave to dry naturally.

I have a round face so can look fat and moon like with a bob. Also short hair can make me look like I am wearing a hat as it gets so thick.

WithIcePlease · 31/07/2024 22:40

Same here
Straight and v flat
Layered bob is the best I can do. Length to chin/collarbone
I use a lot of dry shampoo - usually the killer or wow volume from Superdrug to give it some volume
I also have the colour wow style on steroids. I've had it since Xmas but not tried it yet
It's so so silky and soft. I've been hoping a few greys would give it a bit of body but those haven't appeared as yet.

weekfour · 31/07/2024 22:50

My hairdresser said the same about greys. That I'd like them and their texture!

That probably sums up just how shit this hair is that I can't wait to go grey. It's quite nice to have a shared moan though guys.

YouTube is your friend!!

Perfect a couple of hair up styles.

Centre part hair and put in a low ponytail. Backcomb all of the length slightly and then twist it into a bun. Pull the inside layers out over the top (like an internal hairnet) and Kirby grip all setting the edges, crossing the grips over each other to lock them in. Pull out a few strands to soften, or loosen a bit at the crown to add body.

Brush hair from one side of the head around the back of your head and over the opposite side. Place a line of Kirby grips vertically from your nape to crown, securing hair across the back of your head. Roll ends into a chignon and pin with more Kirby grips, using the line underneath as a foundation. Soften for volume.

Clip the top layers at the sides of tie head away, and backcomb at the crown and sides. Pull back into a medium ponytail and secure with two strong bobbles. Soften and wrap a piece of hair around the bobbles to make it look more put together.

BlueBobble · 31/07/2024 23:11

Also, always dry your hair well (Parlux dryers are excellent) to hell but hair volumised and clean. Never tie your hair back or sleep on it whilst it's wet.

Bohomovies · 01/08/2024 00:15

Do you suit a bun? You can tease out a couple of strands at the front and maybe curl them, then put the rest in a bun, using a bun donut if that looks better. It’s really easy - tutorials on YouTube, and it looks much more put together than a ponytail.
