Are there any particular rules for choosing a wedding veil? The dress is white chantilly lace. There are so many different style I have no idea which one to go for. Any ideas? Not looking to spend too much. Which one did you go for?

What style is your wedding dress @Shopaholic100 and are you planning on wearing a circlet etc, and what sort of hairstyle do you have?
What sort of budget have you got in mind?

My advice would be go to the bridal shop you got your dress from and see what they recommend. Try a few on and see what you like. Me personally, I love a veil, and for me it was a case of go big or go home so I went for the longest one possible (I think they call it cathedral length). I wanted something that trailed along the floor. I don't think there's any rules as such, but happy to be corrected.

Yes, it really depends on what type of dress, and the venue. If the back of your dress is a feature you want to show off, you might go for a shorter veil. If you are in a church, you may want more coverage... so many variables.

It’s a fish tail chantilly lace dress with a medium length train it also has an additional over skirt which will be worn during the ceremony. I was thinking a chapel length so you can still see the lace detail through the over skirt.

Kate Middleton wore a shorter veil that showed the lovely detail on the back of her dress. I think that's a good idea.

This is the back of the dress. The venue is a converted barn. I’m not too sure about the hairstyle yet and don’t really want to spend too much on this, £100 max preferably less. The bridal shop was quite far so I might take a look locally. I wasn’t too impressed with the one they put on in the shop it was a bit too plain.

Looking at your lovely dress, I'd say you would be best with a waist length veil, or possibly a slightly shorter elbow length veil, so that the dress can be fully admired.
Also do you want the veil over your face for your entrance (two tier) or not (single tier)?

As you don't want anything too plain, perhaps you'd like one with a scatter of pearls? That would decorate the veil, but not take the attention away from the lace of the dress.

My wedding dress had a similar back to yours and mine had a long train and I tried both a cathedral veil and a shorter waist length veil.

The cathedral veil was undoubtedly stunning and very dramatic but it was a bit too much with the style of my dress and too much attention was taken up with the veil.

I actually ended up wearing a 3-tier waist length veil sited at the crown of my head, with a delicate tiara and it looked lovely and the focus was on my dress. I did wear the cathedral veil for some of the photos though so I ended up wearing both veils.

Maybe wear a cathedral one for your ceremony and a waist-length one for your reception if you want to keep a veil on for your reception.

@AdaColeman @AddictedToBooks thanks some good suggestions. I’m thinking a shorter one than Cathedral, might be better with some type of pearl or lace work. I’ve not heard of a 3 tier veil so will look into that.

I got my 3-tier veil from Ebay - it just gives you that extra bit of "bounce" as I didn't want a flat looking veil.

Wishing you all the best for your wedding and marriage x
