Hair serums which claim to reduce grey hairs - anyone used one?

There seem to be quite a lot of products on the market now claiming to slow/reduce grey hair and I wondered if anyone’s used one and seen any difference?

Living Proof have recently launched this one that I’m considering trying.

A serum couldn't do that . It's just a marketing ploy. What I don't understand is why people don't want to go grey, there are many beautiful shades.

Going grey is down to genetics, AFAIK serums can’t change genetics 🤣

BigGrubbyFlowerPot · 30/07/2024 10:00

Sounds like a coating, rather than a product that can prevent greys. That's impossible! It's like saying you can change eye colour or height!

The product you've linked to claims to reduce hair loss, not greying.

@thedevilinablackdress ah yes, interesting how there’s no mention of the ‘anti-grey complex’ in the product description but it features pretty heavily in the online adverts I’ve seen. The third photo on the carousel list the four ‘active ingredients’ one of which is an ‘antioxidant and amino acids blend which reduces the appearance of grey hair’

There seem to be a lot of products coming on to the market with these claims, initially in the US and now starting to pop up here. I suspect it’s more the case that these products improve the condition of your hair so people feel like there’s less grey showing or something.

My husband has been using a shampoo that basically dyes hair but with a cumulative effect so it’s not so obvious. It’s not an overall block colour and he still has some grey at the sides where it is kept short so looks very natural.

He went in for the one on TV (Alpecin?) but a nice checkout assistant in the shop said this was the same but a lower price Just For Men Control GX Grey Reducing Shampoo For Grey Hair, With Coconut Oil & Aloe Vera

FYI it stains fingernails a bit… and the silicone around the base of the shower tray!

Bellebelleagain · 30/07/2024 19:20

@WhenWillWanksWildly Yeah I’ve seen that kind of stuff!

I’m only a little bit grey but have naturally very dark hair so it shows up quickly. Quite happy getting my roots covered every couple of months at the hairdressers but if there was something which could slow the grey down a bit that would be handy!

I always think if any of these cosmetic products had been proven to do the amazing things they claim to, they'd have made the news.
