Beef tallow on your face?

I read an inspiring article… OK, I saw a TikTok, by a dermatologist recommending you use beef tallow on your skin as a moisturiser.

Beef tallow is basically lard, but from cows’ fat instead of pigs’.

The dermatologist said it doesn’t clog your pores, moisturises really well and can help soften lines. He said it’s more effective than some ££££ creams.

So naturally, I bought some. I found it on The Soapery website for £6 and I’ve melted it down into little pots and I’m about to start slapping it on. It doesn’t smell beefy. But in every other way it’s about as unpleasant as you’d expect.

Have you ever heard of this? Will it work? Am I about to be gorgeous or will I look the same but with fat-smeared pillowcases?

@bryceQ - yours sounds better than mine! Where’s yours from?

I'm veggie op so I'm not going be trying this one! Thanks for the thread though the comments have made me laugh! Crispy chicken and used Greggs bag 😂 Think I'll stick to coconut oil when I want something basic to use. I have had dogs trying lick my legs when using coconut oil though! 🙂

DH is going to make some chips with it too 😂 He can’t do that with Crème de la Mer

😂

I bought some whipped tallow moisturiser about three weeks ago and think it is brilliant. It was 16 quid for a tiny pot and I initially thought it was a bit expensive but it lasts incredibly well. I put it on last thing and it doesn't look shiny in the morning. It smells of rose and patchouli. My skin is soft and glowy with no nasties being absorbed into it.

I use this one

I love it. I’ve had two tubs of the aloe one and have recently bought the lavender one and the rose one.
they feel gorgeous on and my skin is glowing. They smell lovely and last ages

I sometimes see a Facebook advert or is it on Instagram, I can't remember but it's for a tallow skincare range.

The very thought turns my stomach but I am a vegetarian!

Yes I’ve been using a dab daily for about three months. Just organic tallow. It’s great and absorbs really quickly.
Skin feels really supple and soft. It’s lovely for keeping skin nice and protected in cold weather.

I would only use products that made me feel good. So they smell nice, look good, feel good, doesn't repulse me, and the product works well. Sounds like some would find this works well for them, but none of the other boxes get a tick. Reminds me of the popular slug slime.

Not sure where all the criticism is coming from really

It's a moisturiser. Far less processed than the vast majority of muck that's promoted under the guise of 'dermatology'

rumkar · 24/02/2025 21:47

I've never tried it and always felt a bit put off by the thought of it.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 24/02/2025 21:56

Strangely, suddenly less appealing if one refers to it as 'beef dripping'... Just saying 😉

Appalonia · 25/02/2025 07:27

I've got some lard in the fridge, so you think that would work the same...?

dudsville · 25/02/2025 07:28

It would still repulse me!

I swear by argan oil. I had a severe reaction to Cetaphil cleanser after they changed the formulation and this has saved my skin( but I still have the broken veins!). It's all I have used for 6 months night and day. I have used tallow to get rid of a severe pach of eczema on my wrist and found it to be a great moisturiser for the body. I have heard great things for tallow, coconut oil and caster oil for the face but be aware that a very few people break out with them. I intend to try these myself at some point. After my experience with Cetaphil I want to use more natural cosmetics. The trick is to patch test first with everything!

My grandmother was in service from the age of 12 and she told me they used to use left over butter as moisturiser on their faces.

The Tallow I buy smells gorgeous. I've linked it in a previous post
