The problem:
Going to a wedding week on saturday. Got a gorgeous dress. Unfortunately I do not look gorgeous.

What needs sorting:
Got a tanned/windburned face with red nose and dry lips.

White arms and legs - can't use fake tan as it turns my psoriasis orange. Will attempt to get out in shorts and t shirt over next few days which will sort out psoriasis and pale skin hopefully. (don't mind pale skin, its the combo with the brown face thats odd!)

Have practically no make up. Need help choosing some please.

Hair is limp - will get it cut next week but it needs life!

wobbly tummy.

And - my embarrassing thing - I've never figured out what colour tights look good.

Thanks for any help!

Face - start exfoliating and moisturise. Lips too.

Don't go overboard with makeup if you don't usually wear it. Tinted moisturiser and concealer rather than foundation if your face is very dry. Look at the mac girl's eyemakup sessions on Youtube for some tips and have a play.

Get a volumising shampoo and conditioner and practice blowdrying.

Tummy - spanx.

Tights - depends on what colour dress and shoes?

Mac chick she's great and very funny.

Gorgeous dress is more than half the battle! Glass of champagne, big grin, sex with your fella before you go will give an enviable glow. As for make up, MAC counter lady sorted me out I just do what she told me. Cost lots but I get lots of compliments when I do put on a bit of slap (possibly because of amazing contrast with normal pale and flaky look). Have got eczema and find brown fishnets do the best job of not being itchy but covering up legs. Hope you have a lovely time!

I'd never have thought if youtube for how to apply makeup - thats great!!!

I always find the number of counters overwhelming when I go into department stores and don't know where to head so I'll try Mac I can go next monday.

Ok - so what do I exfoliate my face with in the mean time? I can get to Boots tomorrow. I've been putting cymex on my lips to try and sort them out and dug out a tub of oil of Olay 24 hour moisturiser stuff this morning.

Dress is this one

About 3 times what I've ever paid before but I've got a couple of special occasions this year and when I put it on it was so perfect.

Shoes I'm not sure - I've got 3 pairs of nice shoes - some incredibly strappy high red ones, some beige high heels with some beadwork or some lower burgundy slightly chunkier shoes. none go terribly well but I'm running out of money!

Thanks all

I would second the moisturiser as major thing to do. Also can you do a home steam? Just have a hot steamy bath and then wash your face after or do a facemask that isn't going to give you an allergic reaction?

I remember years ago someone doing a Vaseline facial - they slapped it on, steamed the bath and then wiped it off. Pretty straightforward and not too expensive.

Also agree with Spanx or similar for tummy. Flexees used to do a cheaper one which is a pull up corset only (that doesn't give you a sweaty bum)

Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream will sort out your face. Visit the chanel counter and get them to make you up on the day of the wedding.
Hair cut will sort you out. Don't need a tan at this time of year - just exfoliate well and moisturise.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/04/2008 22:14

poodlepusher - will keep up with the moisturiser. I decided that probably drinking lots of water might help too. Do you think the vaseline steamy thing might give me spots, I'm not sure about it but I could def go for lots of hot steamy baths Corset - hmmm, wore one for my wedding day - was very glam!! better than a sweaty bum!

Vacantlypretty - good idea about the sunbed. I've used one in the past. I've had a lot of uv therapy in the past but its a very long waiting list. I did consider my shorts today but then it rained again and hypothermia won't make me look pretty! Barelegged does sound nicer to me, I hate the texture of tights. I've started slathering on that scholls cracked heel stuff, worked really well last summer. I have got a shrug to go with the dress. I called it a cardi but the shop lady very firmly corrected me!!

Cornsilk - I can pick up some of that cream tomorrow. thanks! Unfortunately I'll have to travel up day before and will be busy with dd being bridesmaid so no chance of having makeover on day.

Neigbour who is fab with hair and doing haircut is going to do it for me day before and she reckons it should last.

So last question in case I don't find helpful counter lady whats the best way of calming down a red nose?

ooo I'm painting such a lovely picture of myself but I do appreciate all of your help!

Like the dress.

You can buy green stuff which tones down a red nose, then you apply your normal make-up over the top. Sorry I can't recommend a brand, but any make-up counter will tell you. Benefit are pretty good at that kind of fix-it solution IMO.

Agree with drinking lots of water...and gets AS MUCH SLEEP AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN. That was my bossy voice.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/04/2008 22:23

oops!
Best go to bed then!
G'night!!
