Why is everything so bloody patterned?

I just want some nice clothes, but everything is just so PATTERNED everywhere.

I hate most patterns - ditsy patterns, big patterns, I just tend not to like them. Also frills and pointless ties etc.

Bah humbug.

Please let me know any recommendations for nice plain clothes 🙂! I'm in my 40s and WFH.

I agree hate seeing a sea of florals! I like COS - clean simple muted colours and good quality fabrics!

Lentilweaver · 28/07/2024 23:26

I was just going to say Cos, Massimo Dutti, The White Company, or Poetry. No one brand. You have to search.

VictoryOrDeath · 28/07/2024 23:29

Thanks both 🙂, I'll check them out.

It's frustrating to see clothes that you like, other than the patterned material.

I agree, way too many stripes, animal print, floral and oversized shapeless clothes. H&M are still quite good for plain coloured clothing.

Community Clothing has no patterns at all.
Cos rarely has patterns.
Nobody's Child is about 50/50.
Oska has only a small amount of patterned clothes.
Max Mara is about 50/50
Margaret Howell and Studio Nicholson would probably have to look "pattern' up in a dictionary

Loads of brands have non patterned options.

Beat me to it.

As mentioned - Community Clothing surely makes ideal WFH clothes. Or

American Vintage

where they’ve used the same flower print on four items in the new collection, and as far as I scrolled, stripes on three tops, and no other patterns or prints anywhere. New stuff is utterly lush.

I'm with you, op. I hate patterned clothes. I don't want stripes, florals, wacky shite all over the place. I like plain, high quality, classic, simple clothes. They can be hard to find.

The odd stripe; no patterns, gorgeous clothes:

Ooh, they're nice! Thousands of miles off my budget, though. I was going to suggest Ralph Lauren ... I've just looked and, while their understated block-colour classics are all there, they've been heavily infiltrated by droopy dresses in irritating prints.

Previous MNers have recommended Kettlewell. Good fabrics, over a hundred colours, and more plain than patterned.

I so agree with you OP.

My bugbear with patterned/striped items is when they do not match up the pattern on the seams. Someone linked a really expensive skirt on another thread, and the pattern was all mismatched and the print cut off on the seam.

I mainly wear plain fabrics for this reason. But surely you would think that pricier brands would get this right though.

Some years ago I had a pair of leggings with a kind of circular print. I am sure these leggings started my print phobia as they had two small half ovals right over the crotch area 😂 It was like a map saying..... you have reached Vagina.

Very boring un-patterned:

Sunspel
Colourful Standard
Pangaia (but logo on everything)

Very beautiful, expensive, plain:

I haven't looked this year but Zara usually have lots of nice plain things

InTheBleakMidsummer · 29/07/2024 16:39

It’s possible to like patterned and plain, though, @henlake7! Grin
