Skin+Me

I have just signed up to try Skin+Me and I wondered if any other Mumsnetters use it and, if so, whether you rate it? I found one other thread about it, but that seemed to be focusing on acne treatment which isn't a concern for my skin.

I am 40 with normal (but definitely leaning dry) skin and I have quite a lot of hyper pigmentation that I am hoping it will help with. I have always been freckly but now I feel that my uneven skin tone is really aging me.

I am also hoping that I won't need to buy any other serums, etc. and can just use one product and get results to keep things simple.

If you do/have used Skin+Me please share you thoughts. How long did it take to see results?

I use Dermatica which is a similar organisation- you can have an online consultation with them. Or, just try Skin and me for a few months. Good results from niacinamide for uneven skin tone.

Figroll16 · 28/07/2024 19:28

I've used both skin & me and Dermatica-I prefer skin & me. I just couldn't get used to the Dermatica one regardless of prescription.

I'm mid 40s with melasma -I started on a low dose of tret , niacinamide and azaelic acid. Got on pretty well but my melasma has worsened this summer despite copious amounts of spf50 so I asked for hydroquinone with the tret instead which has faded the pigmentation immensely. They only let you stay on the hydroquinone for a few prescription cycles I believe though.

I started it last month and have just got my 2nd lot in the post. I got it for some rosacea and it has, so far, definitely got better. It is a bit up and down and I'm willing to try it for a few months.

"I started on a low dose of tret , niacinamide and azaelic acid"

I've got my info through now and that's what they've started me on. I've used retinols for a while so I'm excited to see what difference the tret makes to my skin.

I used both skin&me and dermatica for hyperpigmentation. It reduced the pigmentation but not completely disappeared. You can only use the product for so many cycles then they recommend something else. As it did not really work for me, I stopped as becoming expensive. I have dark tanned skin so may work better for different skin tone.

Highnone · 31/07/2024 10:25

skin and me work with a number of influencers, so that puts me off them immediately.

Irrelevant but thanks for sharing your insights. 😂

Is that the hydroquinone? It can cause ochronosis if used long term, so I believe it is generally only used for short stints, I don't think that's specific to these skin care companies. And I think it's usually the second choice for particularly stubborn issues that don't respond to tret.

I am pretty sure tret can generally be used long term to maintain results.

Did you have any preference between Skin+Me and Dermatica?

I used it for rosacea so different formula, but it worked brilliantly. I’ve stopped my subscription after a year as the tubes are piling up because I don’t use it every single evening, and it’s expensive, but once I’ve worked my way through them I’ll sign up again. It’s made my skin so clear.

Figroll16 · 31/07/2024 17:43

Yes it's the hydroquinone you can't use for long periods-the other ingredients are fine for long term use.

Technically they had virtually the same ingredients, I preferred skin & me. My skin is pretty dry and slightly sensitive and the Dermatica completely dried me out and causes some irritation. The skin & me one just agreed with my skin more.

I don't use every night - I use every other (which saves me having an order every month!)

Figroll16 · 31/07/2024 17:44

Sorry -just realised you weren't asking me 😂🤦🏻‍♀️

No worries, and thank you. My skin leans dry too, so good to know you got on better with Skin+Me. Fingers crossed it agrees with me too.

I've been using it for around a year and overall very happy with it. It's definitely given me more of a glow and I get less breakouts (although I still get the odd hormonal spot on my chin which is annoying)! You'll definitely need to use a good moisturiser though as the actives can be quite drying.

Why is it Irrelevant? They are working with a number of influencers who are working with so many skincare brands it’s impossible to know if what they say about Skin and me is true. In addition, they are working with some influencers whose skin looks truly dreadful, and so it all just feels so disingenuous.

Really excellent skincare brands do not need to work with a bunch of instahuns to get sales - the products speak for themselves

I'm 8 months in with skin and me and it's transformed my skin.
I had spots so it was targeted towards that but my whole skin is now soft, smoother and feels clearer.
I am also using their face wash.
I found a cheaper moisturiser was better so haven't repurchased theirs.

I wanted to get to the stage where I wasn't hiding under foundation everyday and I haven't worn any all week so feel like I'm there now!

Ah lovely. I'm so glad it has helped!

I don't wear makeup every day (lazy) but I wish I looked better without it.

Here's hoping!!

I been using it for about 4 years but think I'm going to stop. It hasn't really done anything. I had the melasma formula several times, but it just comes back. I use SPF 50.

Tbh, I found green juicing twice a day gave me a better glow, but it's a faff.

Anyone else had little results?

Ninzy · 02/08/2024 14:21

I had it a few months ago for the trial month and it burned my face. I messaged them to ask if the burning was normal and they said yes. I persevered for a week but it got worse daily so I had to stop.
