What to wear for First Communion a couple of weeks after giving birth?

My DS1 is making his First Communion in June, 2 weeks after my (4th) child is due. What on earth can I wear?

It's probably safe to assume that I'll have had the baby by then, but my stomach may not have deflated and I'll have Scary Norks (I was a G cup last time). My lovely pregnancy varicose veins will probably still be all wormy and there are some at the bottom of my legs. So pretty much all of my body will be unpresentable. Oh, and I'll need easy access for breastfeeding.

I don't have any suitable maternity outfit. I've been wearing black trousers and tunic tops so they are no good.

Our church doesn't "do" sleeveless so will need sleeves and definitely something daytimey.

Any ideas?

I know it's a bit of a tall order but please...

Can you wear the black maternity trousers as a start? At least you know they'll fit/be comfortable. Then get a new top to go with them?

Rolf · 13/04/2008 21:56

That's an idea. They'll be pretty skanky by then, but so will I

No you won't! What kind of size are you?

gigglewitch · 13/04/2008 22:01

c'mon, treat yourself to some new trousers now and wear them a bit for when you want to go out looking respectable

Size 14, 5'5", short-waisted. Quite small-boned so size 14 is quite overweight for me - although will have post-baby excuse!

A wrap dress - good for easy access for b'fing and "unknown" tummy size

with boots/tights maybe if legs are a complete no go ?

or maxi skirt with jersey panel

with wrap type top

In June, if you need you legs covered, I'd think trousers rather than skirt/dress and boots.

TillyScoutsmum · 13/04/2008 22:40

I agree - sorry - missed the June bit

still like the maxi skirt though

I love that silk skirt - will go and have a look at it next week. If it's long enough the legs should be sufficiently well-hidden.
