Help - concert clothes

I have about 36 hours to buy something suitable to wear to a rock concert (indoor). I'm 45, dark haired, 5 ft 4, and a size 12 to 14- carry weight on my hips and stomach. I would like something bling which I can get in a physical store like Zara, John Lewis, Oliver Bonas etc., stock permitting, since too late to order. Ideally dress or jumpsuit. I'm in London. Would appreciate suggestions please.

Unless it's something like Taylor Swift or Harry Styles people don't get reallt dressed up for rock concerts. What would you wear to go to a pub?

TheSquareMile · 26/07/2024 09:25

@Gameset

Head to Oxford Street, you will find something you like there.

A rock concert?
A band T and jeans would do the trick nicely.

Agreed.

Maybe I am just old but I would go for comfort every time.
Last concert I went to I wore a funky Tshirt, wide legged jeans and pink ombre crocs - the crocs were DD approved and after 5 hours of standing my feet and back thanked me. Nobody could see my feet in any case

NeverDropYourMooncup · 26/07/2024 09:31

Jeans, T-shirt and dark trainers with some decent support and toebox protection. If it's a proper gig, you won't want to be wearing anything that'll show up stains/beer spillages/people treading on your foot, it'll be too hot and white trainers won't be anything like white by curfew.

SleepingStandingUp · 26/07/2024 09:42

Op what do you already own in black?

Bling wouldn't be my first thought for rock. Who are you seeing?

Is it a date?

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 26/07/2024 09:44

Jeans , top and trainers surely? I’ve been going to rock concerts for 50 + years and have never worn anything else.
Why do you want to dress up and wear bling OP?

Tisfortired · 26/07/2024 09:44

Any gig I go to I just wear jeans/trousers, a tshirt or band tshirt and maybe a bit of lipstick or extra jewellery. Don’t stress about dressing up (unless you really want to dress up of course!)

Rocknrollstar · 26/07/2024 09:57

Went to see Bruce Springsteen last night in combats and a T-shirt. Most people were dressed the same. Take a small bag which you wear and don’t have to put on the floor - people always spill their drinks.

mitogoshi · 26/07/2024 10:12

Jeans, top, solid shoes eg doc martens or trainers. Don't overthink it, a really tatty gig t shirt from many years ago works for instance.

Or I am just in whatever I happened to wear for work

CleanShirt · 26/07/2024 10:17

Whatever you feel comfortable in. Literally nobody will take notice at a gig.

That's the important bit- small cross body bag for phone, cards and keys.

Vicliz24 · 26/07/2024 10:45

Yes jeans and a tee with solid trainers. Definitely a small cross body bag . Nobody will be blingy

GoldFrame · 26/07/2024 10:47

I went to one last week. Wore a cream lace vintage style skirt, grey pink Floyd t shirt (from Tesco!), a narrow scarf from rockins, and chunky cream nineties style boots.

Id suggest maybe a leopard print skirt, like the nineties ones that are everywhere, new look has nice ones, and a logo t shirt. Boots or trainers. Cross body tiny bag, try river island or zara has nice ones

PeachyKeane · 26/07/2024 10:49

I do bling for concerts OP, but I.love dressing up. Always comfy shoes though, docs or trainers.

DTisawazzock · 26/07/2024 10:49

I decide about 15 minutes before I leave the house what I'm going to wear for a concert. It's always comfort. Jeans and appropriate tops, flat shoes.

Footballwidow24 · 26/07/2024 10:51

Surely it depends if she's going to see someone like Bruce Springsteen or Taylor Swift, in terms of how the rest of the audience are dressed?

Worldgonecrazy · 26/07/2024 10:56

Who wants to dress like the rest of the audience? 😀 If you do want to dress like the rest of the audience then boot cut jeans, a band t-shirt and Skechers seems to be the go-to for our age group.

For ‘dressing up’ sequinned tops seem to be the current 50-something uniform at the last few concerts I’ve been to.

GoldFrame · 26/07/2024 10:56

I wear the same sort of thing to all gigs, always like to be a bit dressed up.

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 26/07/2024 10:56

I would wear whatever I happened to be wearing on a non office day, which is likely to be a cotton dress of some sort, flat shoes or boots. If I need a jacket or jumper it will be one which I can tie round my waist.

The only non classical concert I can think of which involved any particular dressed up style was Belle and Sebastian supported by Camera Obscura in Princes Street Gardens where there were lots of deliberately nerdy, bookish, vintage dresses/cardigans/ tweedy jackets. It was rather sweet.

🙈🙈 I’m 55

I shall go boldly into the night without ever setting foot in a skecher!

Well I don't own jeans, have never owned a band t- shirt or sketchers or a sequined top. I wouldn't however get dressed up for a concert of any kind unless it was one where there is a theme.

It's not really a question of dressing or not dressing like the rest of the audience but rather that with the exceptions where there's a known theme e.g, Swift, Styles, or the band themselves have a particular look that audiences copy (in which case you would look like the rest of the audience) concerts aren't generally events anyone wears anything different from everyday clothes.

GoldFrame · 26/07/2024 11:21

Each to their own, surely?

Lots of people do get dressed up, lots don’t 🤷🏼‍♀️
