Turned 50 - had covid and several other dramas/traumas in the last couple of years. Just looked at recent hol pics and look like shit! I've always been ok looking - not Kate Moss but scrub up ok - but jeeeez I just look old and tired and ugly.
Wear minimal make up now as looks awful (used to accentuate now seems to make me look like im in drag). Have got ok hair and wear ok clothes but really - HELP - I'm starting to look old/like my dad. What can i do that isn't cosmetic surgery??!!

A transformative gym/fitness programme, some beauty salon treatments, good hair stylist and new colour, fake tan… drink a hella lot of water and start facial massage! X

Stop looking in the mirror and accept how you look. Did that in my 20's 😉

BobbyBiscuits · 25/07/2024 21:07

Good eyelash serum and dentist tooth whitening treatment. I hate makeup and feel pretty old and haggard, but those two things made me feel like my face looked a lot better, and gave me more confidence. Think of it this way though, at least you had looks in the first place to 'lose'?! Haha.

I think the problem with aging is that it’s not directly linear. We tend to expect gradual progression, but actually it happens in jumps. So it’s possible to have a tricky couple of years and think it’s a bad patch, and that you just need to do something to “get back to before”, but it’s not necessarily fully recoverable.

Sorry, that was probably a bit glum!

Exercise - cardio, somatic, and weights.
Really nutritious food and a good vitamin boost.
Bone broth for collagen.
Maybe switch out your colour palette. Colours we wear when younger are not always the same ones that suit when older.
Do something that makes you genuinely happy, because it shows!

Billyandharry · 25/07/2024 21:11

@woofyoof i hear you! @babyproblems thanks for the tips. Honestly I've aged a century in the last year or so. Not uber vain just a bit depressing really.x

Lots of water
Sweat x1 per day
8 hours sleep a night
Retinol
Marine collagen
Minimal alcohol
Nice smile
Good haircut and tidy nails
Quality clothes and jewellery- avoid patterns and very bright colours
Simple accessories

Or relax, accept and enjoy life?? Inner happiness always does shine through trite as it might sound.

Billyandharry · 25/07/2024 21:22

@nameynamenamenamename that's it - it's def not linear in my case! Thanks for all tips looks like I'm going to have to make a bit of effort here!

@GlitteringUnicorn thanks I appreciate your advice and will google collagen etc. I am generally content etc etc and I hear you but I feel mother nature needs a teensy helping hand right now.

I hear you. Had the most stressful few months of my life and all my 47 years piled on suddenly. People have commented too :( I think out of concern!

I’ve gone for Botox and profhilo. It’s helped. But would like to do more!

Billyandharry · 25/07/2024 21:26

@AnotherNaCha yes it's crap isn't it - glad you found something helpful. I just suddenly look like my dad in a wig and it's not a great look tbh!

I just looked in the mirror with that comment in mind, and now I can’t un-see it 😂. Thanks for that!

It does seem a particularly cruel trick for our appearance to change so drastically in our late 40s/early 50s, when so much of the female experience, from the moment we're born, is focused on how we look. I generalise of course, but it does seem to be a fairly universal experience.
For me, I focus on exercise, healthy eating, look after teeth, eyes, hair, skin etc. in simple ways.

Billyandharry · 26/07/2024 15:48

@nameynamenamenamename sorry!! 🤣
