Tennis bracelet - Suitable for daily wear?

I've been eyeing up a rather beautiful diamond tennis bracelet from Goldsmiths whilst I've been off work. My only worry is how hard wearing are they?
I currently wear a Cartier bangle every day which has scratches and scuffs but still looks amazing once polished.
Do any of you stylish posters wear a tennis bracelet everyday?

I do! They still look as good as new.

My mum has one and it looks amazing! Seems to be very robust- I'd love one.

Shinyandnew1 · 24/07/2024 22:39

I’d absolutely love one-something quite slimline. I’d want a sturdy clasp though!

Don't get white gold as it gets dull and will need replating if you wear it daily. Wish I hadn't

I do and have worn it for the last 20+ years. Had the clasp tightened for the first time last year. Mine is quite delicate but hard-wearing. And is platinum so no worries about rhodium plating. Agree that white gold can be a PITA.

I must be very hard on diamond bracelets as have managed to break and consequently lose 2 over the past 5-6 years
For frequent wear I now have a double strand bracelet as if one link breaks the other will hold

Thank you ladies! I shall keep an eye out for a platinum tennis bracelet if that is more hard wearing. My current bangle is white gold which is probably why it's so scratched!

Personally I don't think you need platinum (although fantastic if you can!), mine are yellow gold and look new after 4 years of daily wear.

I do. I wear it all the time. Work, dog walking, holidays, swimming, snorkelling, cleaning, sleeping. I never take it off. Mine is white gold but it looks perfect after 4 years wear. Oddly my wedding, engagement and eternity rings are platinum but are far more battered despite regular cleaning etc.

Perhaps white gold is fine then? I might see if I can pop into a jewellers at the weekend and see the difference.

@LondonQueen You won’t be able to tell the difference when everything is new and shiny. White gold is an alloy usually made of 24c gold which is why they yellow over time. To counteract it you need to rhodium plate every few years. It may be the lighting, but you can see a tinge of yellow on @MissFritton65 lovely bracelet. I have a lovely white gold Cartier ring I bought in the 90’s which I wear daily but also have to plate every 5 or so years. It’s no biggie and the outlay for white gold is cheaper initially. Plating is usually around £50-100 depending upon polishing etc. I found over the years the gold and diamond souk in Dubai is a great place to find high quality diamonds at reasonable prices. Also check out indie jewellers who sell second hand pieces, you can find some lovely vintage bracelets in those. Goldsmiths is great but a chain so you are less likely to find a hidden gem (if you pardon the pun). Or pop over to Hatton garden?

Biffatcrafts · 26/07/2024 09:44

I have worn mine every day for over 10 years now and it still looks great. It is platinum (my preferred metal as I don't suit gold). I do take it to the jewellers every year (along with my special rings) for a clean and they polish too if it needs it. They always check the settings and the clasp as well. Never have been told there was a problem though and it also means that if I ever lost it my jeweller would have a reasonable view as to the latest insurance valuation as they would have a record.

Having wanted one for years, my husband finally bought me one for Christmas 2 years ago.

I wear it most days and it looks as good as new. It’s definitely the sparkiest thing I own! I’m very paranoid about losing it though.

MissFritton65 · 26/07/2024 10:07

@Netaporter mine are yellow gold! 😀

sausawyee · 26/07/2024 10:09

It costs next to nothing for a clean and redip for white gold. Platinum gets dull too. Let's be honest though it's the diamonds that do the talking here! You may want to insure depending on the carat.

That’s why they look golden then 🤦‍♀️ 😂

MissFritton65 · 26/07/2024 11:03

@Netaporter yes! 😂The rubover setting makes them particularly hard-wearing; I don't ever take them off.

FamiliaF · 26/07/2024 11:05

their suitability for everyday wear depends on a few factors, mainly it's about the quality of the bracelet, the diamonds, the type of metal used and the lifestyle you have.
The better quality and less challanging lifestyle then Yes, go for it, wear it everyday with pride
