Mole removal cosmetic

hi all I really want to get a mole removed from my face for cosmetic reasons as it’s really getting to my self esteem. I’ve looked up a company called Cosmedics that has practices in London and Bristol- has anyone used them before? Has anyone had a mole removed for cosmetic reasons and how was your procedure and outcome? Thank you

Even for cosmetic reasons I would go to a Dermatologist / trained physician rather than a cosmetic clinic.

I have. I went to a place that uses ultra high frequency EM treatment. The description says they're vaporised and id have to agree that's what they did. It stung a tiny little bit but nothing that had me needing pain killers etc. It scabbed over within a week and almost a year later the pink of the scar has completely faded. I had 2 removed, one slightly bigger and I can feel the smallest of indents. I was in and out in 30 mins and that included the consultation.
I wish I'd done it years ago as they really affected my confidence. Even things like never wanting to put my hair up as they were on the side of my face. So glad I did it.

Thanks for replying, can I ask were your moles coloured and raised? Is there any scar now? And also where did you get yours done? Thank you

I went to our local private hospital to a plastic surgeon. I didn't want to risk it on my face.
They charged for removal of 1-3, 4-6 (strange, I know!). It cost about £850 for up to 3, or about £1100 for up to 6.
It was done in a small operation. I had 8 removed from my face and neck, and it took about 30-45 minutes (it was in a full surgical theatre). The injections to numb it all stung, the operation itself was fine. Sat for half an hour for the anaesthetic to wear off, then drove home.
I had small bandages on my face and neck for a day or two, the underneath scabs lasted a week- 10 days. Underneath was pink skin for the couple of moles that were deeper (I think they had a root). I had a couple of bigger moles that must have had no roots, they had barely any mark underneath.
Of the 8 that were removed, two of them now have paler skin/ scars, the rest aren't noticeable at all 10 months later.

I’m assuming you have seen your GP to check that it’s non malignant?

Thank you for your reply, what procedure was it was it shaved or laser? Were your moles before raised and coloured? Thank you

Yes, raised and coloured. The wider, flatter ones were the ones that scarred. Taken off with the scalpel. The plastic surgeon said there are two options, taking off at skin level, or removing deeper to remove all of the cells (or something similar). If taken off deeper there was less of a chance of them growing back, however he personally had never had them grow back with either method. The deeper one would require a stitch in each place of removal, the shaved one would just scab. He recommended shaving.

I really would recommend a plastic surgeon. I used our local Spire hospital.
Let me know if you want me to see if I've still got pics and I'll pm.

I used Skin Clinic but I see they’ve closed down.
Moles were raised and dark. I had the scalpel method and the scars were deep for a few weeks but have healed amazingly and you would never know they were there. Wish I’d done it years ago

Thank you both for the replies, I’m glad it went well for you both I’m really hoping it does for me! I just want them gone! How long roughly did it take to heal where you could wear make up over it? And now do you not even notice them without make up?

I personally would want any removed tissue sent to a lab and analysed by Pathology, to outrule malignancy, regardless of reason for removal (cosmetic or medical). Is that done with cosmetic clinics?

GettingStuffed · 29/07/2024 22:30

I had a suspicious mole removed from my back on the NHS but in a private dermatologist. It was on Queens Square in Bristol.

Where I had it done, you could pay for that as an extra if you wished. I had them viewed by a GP, who sent pictures to a dermatologist before going to a private hospital. The cosmetic surgeon also had around 20 years experience of mole removal (among other stuff) and said he was happy to send them off as a payable service, however he didn't personally think that needed doing in my case, as he was as certain as he could be that they were non cancerous and a certain type of mole (can't remember the name).
