Teen DD and BO

DD15 has terrible BO and it seems that normal soap and deod aren’t doing the trick. Yesterday was a bad day but I assumed she just hadn’t washed properly. I showed her (yet again) how to wash her pits and it took 3 goes with loads of soap for her to be clean and fresh.

No medical issues and she doesn’t drink booze or caffeine (which NHS website says can contribute to BO).

Can anyone recommend shower gel and deod that will help please?

Zoflora in the wash works on trainers so I’d expect it would work on clothing. Just give an extra rinse after as it can smell quite strong.

Also, antibacterial soap can help. Think dettol still do one?

I ONLY use Sure cotton fresh now - for some reason it's the only one that works for me and believe me I think I've tried every different deodorant over the years!
Try and stick with a soap bar too rather than shower gels - pears is a lovely one and
my nan always swore by coal tar soap too 👍
Old fashioned maybe, but they work x

Same about the sure cotton fresh too :)

Botox injections was the only thing that worked for my friend (who had perfect bodily hygiene)

I use washing machine disinfectant for my son's stuff. He is also a stinky teen. Sports Wash is good too. It's not cheap but designed to get sweat smells out of gym kit. I also got wash things like school shirts because the lower temp washes just don't cut it. I also recommend soap and flannel. Son uses gel wash in the shower but has Sanex soap in there too for pits and bits. It does settle down eventually.

Hot wash not got wash 🙄

Spray white vinegar directly onto under arms of tops, get some halo sports wash sold in sainsburys add napisan to whites and it should help. Works-on my sweaty gym stuff. Theres also a new washing liquid out, persil, the blue one says removes odours even on a short wash. No idea if it works but halo does.

I find the Carpe products absolutely brilliant. Worth trying those

bryceQ · 24/07/2024 14:56

Oh and always apply antiperspirant at night on clean skin (and morning) but night makes it more effective

Shower every day with bar soap and a clean wash cloth. Don't use Dove soap. Followed by Sure Maximum Protection cream stick. Clothes washed in Ariel cold wash gel after a good soak in Dettol laundry sanitiser.

Are you sure she doesn't have hyperbydrosis? I developed this around that age and it was a horrible, everyone thought I smelled, I washed constantly I could just be out from the shower and applying deodorant and I would have horrible sweat patches and smell again. If you think this then you can take her to the GP who can prescribe, can go from roll ons to Botox. Mine has come and gone throughout the years, I found a roll on in boots which works amazing it's called driclor, you use it daily until the sweating stops and then just one or two times a week, really works wonders. The only issue is if she shaves her armpits it does burn slightly

YorkshireTeaBiscuits · 24/07/2024 15:18

Dettol antibacterial body soap available from boots/superdrug followed by mitchum roll on.

Wash clothes with biological powder on a hotter wash.

TheGirlattheBack · 24/07/2024 16:13

Teen DD went through a phase of this. I soaked all of her clothes in Vanish which cleared the lingering smell. Now each time I wash her clothes I pre treat the armpits with antibacterial washing up liquid, a tip I read on mumsnet 😁.

Do you use Bio or Non-Bio laundry detergent?

You need to be using bio on her clothes to clean them properly.

Evenstar · 24/07/2024 20:19

I used to find the Dettol Antibacterial Laundry Rinse was very good on sports kit and school shirts https://www.dettol.co.uk/household-disinfection/laundry/dettol-laundry-cleanser-fresh-cotton-1000-ml/
