Recommendations please for very light glow making sheer coverage that kight even out my skin. Texture is v fine, few wrinkles, but tone is v uneven (melasma, freckles/sun damage, age spots etc) but i hate foundatIon. Would CC cream be solution?

Keep being advertised Jones Road products by Bobbi Brown - but reviews seem mixed. I want something light, not too matte, but some coverage - is this an impossible ask?

I was in Superdrug yesterday and had a quick look at some of the cheaper options. I quite liked the Elf Blur product but they didn't have the right testers for me to get the shade right. Also the textures are so weird - either claggy or this strange supersoft feeling like powder suspended in something - almost like v v fine nubuck!

My daughter says what i want is not possible - coverage and so sheer as to be not noticeable. I think the options atm are either be very young or get photoshop!

Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser. Super sheer.
You might prefer an illuminating primer. Clinique does a lovely, so does Laura Mercier. It’s not tinted but gives a lovely glowy effect. Lovely under blush or bronzer.

Lisa Eldridge skin tint evens out my complexion without being heavy. It is buildable and you can use your fingers to apply it and layer for areas on concern. It's not glowy, I prefer to add glow using highlighting products on specific areas. The shade range is great and I found an excellent match for my pale Celtic skin with neutral undertones.

That's funny! i have it my basket but haven't been able to commit because i can't test the shade online.

I don't know your colouring obviously but I have fair skin and have used Nars tinted moisturiser in Alaska in the winter and St Tropez with a tan. Or Golden Beige in loreal concealer. So with the Erborian cc cream I'm Clair in the winter and Dore definitely with a tan. The colours are pretty adaptable (and few in number) so you don't need to be exact. There is also the cc water cream if you want it even lighter. I am really pernickety with skin and hate looking like I have foundation on so I'm really pleased to have found these!

bakewellbride · 23/07/2024 21:59

I wear rimmel kind and free skin tint foundation mixed with a bit of sun cream, it looks very natural (you can still see my freckles)

Dailyprocrastinator · 23/07/2024 22:01

Good old Boots. No.7 hydraluminous foundation is great and quite a light coverage

minipie · 23/07/2024 22:21

Erborian CC cream (silver tube) is the sheerest I’ve found. It’s barely there and it’s white in the tube then adapts so no orange issues. However - it does not cover melasma or blemishes (I have both). IMO it’s really for people with pretty even skin who want a bit of glow.

The Erborian BB cream (white tube) has much more coverage but it does feel heavier too. Same for the NARS tinted moisturiser.

Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser is on my list to try

I know exactly what you mean about the emulsified powder “nubuck” feel. IME none of the above have that feeling, though foundations do.

As a PP says you can dial down the heaviness by mixing with moisturiser- but this will also reduce coverage of course.

If you really want to cover uneven skin and things like melasma then you need (a light) foundation IMO.

I am a rosacea sufferer who needs coverage but can't bear the feel of makeup on my face. I often just go bare (red) faced but the best makeup I've found is bare minerals. It is so light and covers well. Sometimes I just use the powder and that's so light and doesn't block pores, you could even sleep in it

SoftPillowAllNight · 23/07/2024 23:23

Charlotte Tilbury wonderglow primer - tinted one shade for all skin colours. Beautiful glow and lighter than foundation.

I really like the Dr Jart BB cream. It’s spf50 and sheer. I have tried lots of foundations/bb creams recently as my skin has become so sensitive after having my second child it breaks out in spots or rashes.

Also I recommend finding skincare that’s works for you, for me I found Nip + Fab has calmed my skin down and given it the best look it has had in years.

Seconding this! It's amazing.

Laura Geller Baked balance and Brighten

Cant feel it on my face at all, but it does what it says without it being there so to speak

Its light to build up to medium coverage using a Kabuki brush.

I get complimented on looking fresh or well. It doesnt mask my face, just makes me look better

VivaLaSpag · 23/07/2024 23:52

Dr Jart BB cream is wonderful and currently my favourite product. The annoying thing is the limited shades, however i found that with the lighter one although it goes on a little chalky almost it very quickly seems to blend in and settle with your skin tone.
Otherwise I also love Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser although the SPF is lower than Dr Jart.

IT BB and CC cream is the worst money I have ever spent….very heavy and cakes horribly by the end of the day.

So many great suggestions! I found i actually had a Boots Hydroluminous concealer (no idea when i purchased it, which shows how random my commitment to make up is). It's very light and a great match (i have olive skin with freckles) but still a bit too matt for me. It tones down the age spots a bit, but melasma is so weird with a grey tone i think i need the opposite of a green cream for redness. What would that be? A pinky colour? Is there such a thing?

Going to try and mix a bit of moisturiser with the concealer today.

Main issue anything like this on my skin makes me feel grubby - not sure what to go about that!

minipie · 24/07/2024 08:42

Where is your melasma? You might find a bit of bronzer does the job of “lifting” the greyness and blending any patchiness, without having to have makeup all over your face. Not if it’s around your mouth though (like mine 😬)

bryceQ · 24/07/2024 08:45

I wear Erborian in Clair and that's all I wear. You can get small tubes you don't need a big one. They also have loads of samples if you buy from their site. Some people have problems with the shades but it's perfect for me (I would be foundation shade 2 if that makes sense).

I also sometimes use the rms beauty luminisor on my cheekbones for extra glow.

bryceQ · 24/07/2024 08:46

I don't rate the Jones road products they are just like an enormous pot of tinted vaseline

This is why I like Laura Geller, I seriously can not feel anything on my face

I use a mix of two of her foundations, Double take - which is full coverage and and balance and brighten. I use the double take to cover the redness and sore areas I have, then go over with the balance and brighten. Even on days when I have had a huge reaction to something and my face looks a complete mess and I have to build up coverage, I cant feel make up on me.

I did try the hydroluminous but I couldnt cope with how it felt on me. Loved the coverage but it did cake in areas so was never really happy with it even getting past the feel

I bought the Revolution dupe and yup this is basically it 😆

Asabat · 26/07/2024 18:12

@minipie melasma is in attractive moustache shape on upper lip and on cheeks. Highlighter or bronzer might work on cheeks but think it will look a bit funny under my nose!

Thanks for this all. - so useful to hear what works for people, and what doesn't

It is possible. Try L’Oreal Paris True Match Nude Plumping Tinted Skin Serum, 1% Hyaluronic Acid.

The Maybelline skin tint is also nice but I found slightly more coverage, so prefer the L’Oreal.

Other posters rave about Boots Hydraluminous but I find all their shades run yellow so don’t work for me.
