Ok so :

Age 51
Happy: Grey hair - happy with this found some decent products, is bra length
Problem: Skin - no spots but lots of wrinkles. Trying cerave retinol serum and bought Olay night retinol 24 for when I'm used to it. Pigmentation spots, white and pale, lots of wrinkles by my eyes and 11s
Problem: bingo wings and belly fat. Size 10-12 in clothes, size 36c boobs.
Problem: nails are so short and the white bit starts almost at my knuckles Grin so even when they grow they never reach the ends of my fingers. Weak, split easily.

Vegan so supplements need to be gelatine free etc

Found my clothing vibe just need to force myself to wear nice things instead of reverting to joggers and the same three tees

Oh thanks for the tip I shall google tretonin, I'm usually a Nivea basic type.

Bra size since menopause is a menace.

Following this thread because I’m 50 and also looking for tips.

I’ve just started using tretonoin via skin + me. It’s prescription so you can’t just buy it off the shelf.

I’ve had a couple of sessions of micro needling which has improved my skin too.

I have been colouring my hair for a year with a semi permanent colour which is given it a bit of a lift and makes it look less drab. I’m probably around 20% grey but it was just looking a bit flat.

Regarding underwear, I switched a few years ago to Molke originals and they give me plenty of uplift without underwires. The first time I wore one a friend asked if I’d lost weight as it has helped my posture.

Resistance training can also keep us looking youthful, as well as help with maintaining mobility and strength as we age.

HRT if you can have it.

Throw the joggers and tees away. Lift weights to help your arms. Do stomach crunches even if it's only a few a day it will help.

If you're a 10/12 check you're wearing the right size bra. 36 back seems big. I wear a 34 at a size 14.

I'd recommend spf every day, once you've got that sorted. Tretinoin from a prescription service. I moved from Dermatica to Uncouth, much better and cheaper, great customer service too uncouth.co.uk/referral/525059C0

I need to do this! They are my safe option now

I'm so interested in the tretinoin recommendations, I thought it was all bout retinol!
Just been to see a gym, thinking of how to save £40 a month and join.

For tret, you have a number of options in terms of monthly subscriptions. I have used Skin and Me and currently using dermatica since S&Ms price hike. Costs around £25-30 per month. You can actually buy tubes of tret over the counter in Spanish pharmacies, so if you have a friend making a holiday soon, it works out so much cheaper because the tube lasts ages.

If you are on Facebook, join the Caroline Heron's Skincare group: I have found the advice on there so useful.

Fkintired · 21/07/2024 12:02

Oh, and if you use tretinoin, make sure you are using an SPF everyday. It makes your skin photosensitive and you will undo a lot of the good work otherwise

I think the problem is I'm skinny fat so I look slim but actually have a layer of untoned body fat.

So a 34 back feels really uncomfortable (I'm also autistic and have sensory sensitivity). All my clothes are 8/10 on top and 10/12 on bottom

You can’t ‘tone’ fat.

Do you drink alcohol, eat biscuits sweets? If so can you give them up to help save €40 for gym?

OneFrenchEgg · 21/07/2024 13:55

I don't really eat any sweet food (see my other thread about that, accidentally resolved a weird health issue) but I do drink - could happily swap a bottle of wine for gym membership actually.

Probably feels uncomfortable because not big enough in cup. Honestly, if you are in the right size bra , your clothes look so much better. I am a 16 and wear a 32e/f- there are very few size 10s in a 36 (though as a bra fitter I have seen a couple over the years due to heavy gym activity).
as others have said, try the boob or bust method.
the right foundation can make you feel amazing. Charlotte tilbury do an amazing lightweight one that you can throw on and makes the world of difference. I also love Elemis pro collagen

bitesthedust · 21/07/2024 14:19

For grey hair, I found that the style of the hair itself will either make you drab or make you edgy

Do you know what colours look good on you?

Do you wear glasses? Are they interesting?

Do you wear earings?

Try builder gel on your nails

OneFrenchEgg · 21/07/2024 16:27

Ok so I will check my bra size properly - thank you for the links
I think I miss my undercut. It would also remove a lot of non grey rather than growing it out so that's a possibility.
I do wear glasses and get most compliments when I wear the ones I hate 😂 so maybe I'm rubbish at what suits me
I've been googling and it looks like L'Oréal bright reveal might be good as a daytime moisturiser as it's sof50 and designed to remove dark spots

late 40s. I use tret from dermatica. it's not a quick fix but 9-12 months in, my skin started to look a lot better. I used retinol from the high street before and it had zero affect.
